"Where Are My Glasses?"

Goldfinch60

“I can’t find my glasses!” she said,

“I’ve looked everywhere”.

So the hunt started.

“Where were you?” I asked,

“I was in the kitchen, tidying up”.

So into the kitchen I went,

Looked in cupboards,

Looked in drawers,

Looked in pots,,

Looked pans

I even looked in the ‘fridge,

And in the oven,

But no even I could not find them.

Extended the search to dining room,

Into the lounge and conservatory.

“Have you looked in your handbag?”

“Yes”, she said, “Several times”

So I looked as well,

But no they weren’t there.

All evening I kept on looking

As I moved around the house.

Looking in all the places I’d looked,

All to no avail,

I even looked through the handbag again

But no, they weren’t there.

So off to bed we went,

Slept soundly,

And then arose.

As I walked into the kitchen

The search started once more,

Again, to no avail.

I made my darling her tea,

Took it up to her

Still without her glasses.

We had looked everywhere,

Several times.

Once more I went back to her handbag,

And there hiding in the bottom were her glasses,

The ghost in our house must have put them back!

We had been to Specsavers to get the glasses,

So it could not be said this time,

That we need to go to Specsavers.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A bit of fun today, this is true, I found my wife's glasses about half an hour ago in her handbag. I had looked in the handbag three of four time already last evening and she had looked in it several times. I put this down to the ghost in our house as we have many inexplicable things happen in the house. For my American friends Specsavers is a well known optician in the UK.

Oh lol good write Gold. I did something too. Someone mislaid a wallet. We searched high and low, and revisited local shops to see if it was there, but nothing. it was hiding under a hat all the time!

It is amazing where these things go. The funniest that I can remember is that many years ago Joyce would always by me a Terry's Chocolate Orange at Christmas, one year she put it in a "safe place" so I wouldn't find it - I got it the following September!

I only have a mobile so we can use it to find my wife's when it goes missing. Just a few minutes ago we were searching the freezer for some roasted peppers which my wife prepared a few days ago - out came the drawers and no luck 'they're in a freezer bag here somewhere' she assured me. Anyway we finally found them - not in a freezer bag but in a storage tub !! Yes I can relate to this Andy.

I believe we all can relate to this Michael. One day I had a piece of music in my hand and I went from one room to the next, maybe two yards and the msuic had disappeared. It took about ten minutes to find it again - ridiculous!

Goldie, you really hit a nerve here. Do you know how many times I had to call my wife's cell phone so we would hear it and hopefully find it? Won't even mention glasses.

        • Goldfinch60

Yep, we have all been there and forever will be.

            • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks ANDY ~ Lost Glasses the scourge of Society ! I'm thankful I'm still too young to need them ! Although I fail to understand why the print in the TIMES gets smaller each year ! Also why GIRLS on the opposite Train Platform look beautifully blurred ! Yours BRIAN ~ Should I go to SPECSAVERS ?

There are times when not using glasses can be a God send so that you miss that which you do not want to see.

i find this so utterly annoyng , when i am trying to find something and no matter how much i look i can't! maybe just maybe we are so desperate to find what it is we are searching for that in our hurried and annoyed mind , we end up not looking properly , that or not doing a good enough search lol !

                • Goldfinch60

Thank you yellowrose. You are right I am sure we have a mischievous ghost as there are so many inexplicable things that happen in the house.

Damn, I can identify with this so much. I have been on some hunts very much like this. I have looked for keys I couldn't find because they were IN MY HAND.

                  • Goldfinch60

Thank you LG, yes we have all been there. With my keys they need to be in one of two places, in my pocket or hanging on a designated hook in the hallway. I have had occasions when I couldn't find them and they were hanging on the hook next to the designated one!

i have a habit of pushing my reading specs up above my forehead which of course means i can never find them when i want them..... another great piece from you which we all can relate to.

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you da, yes it happens to us all.
