I have never heard a voice
With so much expression,
So much love,
So much sorrow,
Transported to my ears
In the opera he sings.
He can convey hate,
And anger,
In ways that make me feel
The way he is.
He can convey absolute love
And heart-breaking sadness,
With the way he sings.
No longer with us,
But Tito Gobi is with me,
With me in my mind and soul,
One of the greatest singers I have heard.

- Comment from author about the poem: The you tube download is Maria Callas as Gilda and Tito Gobbi as her father, Rigoletto, from the opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi (Joe Green). It is the final scene of the opera and I have this recording on vinyl, cassette tape, CD and in the ether. When ever I listen to the opera I listen in trepidation to the last scene as I know that I will be in tears. I have heard other recordings but none is as good as this one, it is brilliant. Tito Gobbi shows ALL emotions in his singing - he was wonderful.

I think Tito Gobi would be more than pleased to know that he is in your mind and soul, Goldie! It is the greatest compliment one can make to an artist!
