Skiing for Life.

Goldfinch60

Stepping off the lift

At the top of the mountain,

Skis over my shoulder,

Happiness in my heart,

I stand at the top,

The top of the mountain.

There beneath me

Lays the untrodden snow,

Not a mark upon it.

I prepare myself for the journey,

The journey down the hill,

Going where none have gone before.

The start is slow and gentle,

The sibilance of the snow

Sliding silently beneath my skis.

The speed increases,

As the adrenalin flows.

Then it comes to me,

The wonder of my world

As my journey continues,

Not just down this hill,

That has become my life,

My journey of life.

The thrill of living,

The thrill of My Spirit,

Flowing in me,

Flowing with me.

I ski down this path,

This untrodden path

Which my life is following.

The tracks left behind me,

Where I have been,

The unknown ahead of me,

But the Faith of knowing

All will be well.

The slope eases,

My way slows,

I come to stillness,

Knowing that my journey

Will never end,

And that snow-covered slope,

Will always show me the way.

  • Comment from author about the poem: At Church yesterday after the Service a friend and I were chatting and we started talking about my poetry. He goes skiing and asked if I could write a poem about it. This is that poem but the muse came halfway through writing it and changed its context, this often happens with me as I am sure it does with many of you all as well.

Skiing thought terrifies me but like you see, there will always be a way forward in this life and into the hereafter. 'Seeing' most definately is believing here.

Thank you da, I have never been skiiing but like me walking by My River I can see that skiing may have the same affect.

A great piece of work - I'll send it my son. He's a great skier and knows all there is to know about skiing - with his wife he runs a travel company which specialises in bespoke skiing holidays.

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael, I hope your son enjoys it.

Yes it's an established company which he set up some 15 years ago and is well respected in the industry. Despite Brexit worries he hasn't yet seen any effects and seems to be going from strength to strength.

Good write and pic Gold. Erm, I tried skiing uphill. Didn't get far. Strange that. Hmmm! lol.

          • Goldfinch60

At least with skiing uphill you are putting effort into it.

            • orchidee

Yes - thanks Gold. I wondered why it wasn't so easy as going downhill, cos then I realised I was going uphill!

i wish life were more like skiing down a snow covered hill lol it sounds a lot more fun to me , and for sure .. we will always come to a nice standstill when we are skiing but we can always start skiing again .. lol .. i wish my life had more of a fair certainty. life shoudl definately be like skiing , its a sad shame its sometimes like struggling up a rocky path ..

knowing how to ski is one thing, but knowing how to do life is another thing entirely lol !

Beautifully said, Goldie! And may that one tree, the one that attracts skiiers like a magnet, never be in your way!!!

                  • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fred, that one tree is the risk that we may take in our lives.
