INVENTION.

Fay Slimm.

Invention.

The wish of painters or poets is to show
perceptive emotion
by noting and transposing inner awe
in vividly vaulted scenes
dripping metaphor, musing on whether
nature could ever be worded
yet knowing its core hides a meaning.

An alchemist with no interest in gold
takes up better investment,
finds a thermal to soar on fancy, flies
up-draughts for sentencing,
poets see jasper in water, jade in dawn
and perceive gems hidden
in every nuance of hot or cold weather.

A seer will catch farside's face to etch
its shape in letter or paint,
chimeric by birth an artist, whose eyes
encounter rock ascribes it heart,
transforms by description the earthly
to ethereal, adds dreams
to logic, clear to blur and soft to hard.

It is said largesse opens minds to see
extra in ordinary normality
as when artistic musicians rank magic
of foremost importance
when met with blank canvas-mundane
for clad by invention artists
expect change when Muse is courted.

Words, painting, music - these are the true legacies that man will leave behind I think. The CEO's will be forgotten - the artists (good or bad) will remain in some fashion.... trying so hard to see and catch the magic!

      • Fay Slimm.

Catching that sense of something between normal and artistic expression is ever a challenge to each one of us Lorna - thank you so much for your honest comment - -your work is diverse in both form and subject use so keep in mind that we who try win out in the end with the help of the Muse.

All ARTISTS ~ POETS ~ MUSICIANS have a spark of Genius and given time will produce a New Art Movement ~ A New Poetic Form or a New Music Genre ~ we all seek to add our Mark to Society & History ! Elvis was just a Poor Boy from Tupelo but He inspired a GENERATION ~ DALI a mystic Spanish Painter but He revolutionised 20th Century Art and Robbie Burns a Crofters Son who died Young but his Satire & Poetry is celebrated Worldwide. In the WORLD of SCIENCE a Girl from Poland ~ was forced to study Science in Paris because she was a GIRL ! By serendipity Becquerel chose her to examine the radiation emanating from Uranium and she isolated RADIUM & POLONIUM and obtained not just a PhD (which is a useful qualification) but became the only person to receive two NOBEL PRIZES in Science ~ Physics & Chemistry ~ She also added a very precious word to the WORLD's DICTIONARIES ~ RADIOACTIVITY Alas she died of LEUKEMIA ~ But she left an awesome legacy. We can't all be WORLD CHANGERS ~ BUT ~ We all leave a legacy ~ even if it's only our portfolio of Poems on MPS ! Yours Creatively ~ BRIAN

And I thought all I am doing is simply putting words on paper. But you make me feel like a magician! Beautiful eloquent writing, Fay, you are an inspiration to us all.
