Dancing to Eternity.

Goldfinch60

We were just standing,

Standing in the dining room,

My lover and I.

Nat King Cole was singing,

I was singing with him.

My wife looked at me and said,

“Shall we dance?”

I took her in my arms

And we swayed to the music,

To the wonderfully romantic song,

Being sung to us,

Being sung for us.

It brought back those so long ago

When we danced long into the night

In each other’s arms.

The dancing may have stopped

But we are still in each other’s arms,

And that will never cease,

As we dance together to eternity.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Due to her physical problems my wife cannot dance anymore, she used to be a very good dancer, much better than me but we managed to dance when we were younger. I had put some Nat King Cole on the player as we were listening she looked at me and said "Shall we dance?".

KEEP ON DANCING ~ ANDY ~ In your HEART if not on your feet ! NKC is a great example of the BALLAD PERIOD ~ 1940 ~ 1970 ~ with Crosby ~ Sinatra ~ Dean Martin ~ Tony Bennett (The only one remaining) ~ Jim Reeves etc. Their songs are so romantic ! I give a talk on Nat & Natalie Cole and there is a digitally remastered duet by them called UNFORGETABLE ~ it sold 15 million copies. It was not possible in their lifetime because NATALIE was only 15 when her Dad died ! Thanks for the memory ~ Yours BRIAN There is a song called "Mister Cole don't sing Rock & Roll !"

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you Brian. NKC is best known as a ballad singer but before that he was a very fine jazz player.

So it shall be for you both. This is where i get confused with the ten commandments (not being a christian but holding christian values as being wholesome) for envy is a sin. But in the nicest wholesome way, i envy you two for the love you have..
                    A really moving piece.
And a truly magnificent piece of music from the irreplaceable NKC.

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you da, your values are not wrong, I am a very fortunate man to have a wife such as Joyce.

                      Yes NKC was/is special.
