Many important discoveries have been made
by chance ! Penicillin ~ Polythene ~ Mauvine
(purple dye) Stainless Steel ~ Steam Engine etc.
Crick and Watson discovered the greatest break
through in Chemical Science ~ the Structure of DNA
in 1953 ! Watson was BIOLOGIST and Crick was
a PHYSICIST and they did nothing in the LAB ! They
used Chemical Evidence (from TODD & CHARGAFF)
ROSIE FRANKLANDS brilliant X-ray data and built
models out of steel rods & tinplates (see picture)
despite not really understanding the CHEMICAL
STRUCTURE they got it RIGHT ! The structure of
DNA has revolutionised GENETICS and FORENSIC
SCIENCE ! JAMES WATTS made a cup of tea ~ and
said that kettle looks like a STEAM ENGINE to me !

THANKS CHRISTINA ~ As you know ~ I am a Research Scientist ~ main field of Study ~ Prevention of Coastal Erosion and CO2 Reduction ! Because of this I investigate everything ! In the Poem I tried to hilite (this spelling saves THREE LETTERS !) accidental discoveries ~ like penicillin and polythene etc ! PersistEnce also plays a part as with Eddison and a filament for hi electric light bulb ! We often get ideas from Nature ~ Nylon is a polyamide like wool and wood is a fibre reinforced thermosetting resin ! We analyse Natural Polymers and then imitate ! Big Hugs ~ BROTHER JOHN @@@@@@@
