Elusive Time.

Goldfinch60

Time that most elusive of realities.

In our most glorious of times

Time seems none existent,

As it seems to disappear in a moment.

In our most horrendous of times

Time seems never ending,

As it seems to last a lifetime.

Why is that time appears inconsistent,

Appears Inconsistent in what happens,

In what happens in our lives.

As we travel in that elusive way,

That elusive way where time leads.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Yesterday I watched two Rugby matches on the television, the first one between Ireland and Scotland was a cracking game and the eighty minutes seemed to go in a blink of an eye - I wondered why time had gone so rapidly. The second match between France and England was a dire game and seemed to last forever. Each in real time lasted 80 minutes but to my mind one lasted seconds the other lasted hours. This is the inconsistency of our perception of time. Watching those matches brought about this poem.

The ,speed of the Passage of TIME is in the Mind of the beholder ! In the rainy Q outside the Theatre ~ one hour is an eternity ~ Inside the Theatre (in Row Q) an hour evaporates ! I can only repeat the Mantra "Carpe Diem" because "Tempus Fugit !" Thanks for making us think and Dave Allen ~ better than Victor Borg ~ Both could make the Sublime ridiculous ! Thanks BRIAN PS I agree totally about the RUGBY it has confirmed my FRANCOPHOBIA ! B !

Thank you Brian, Victor Borge was also a very funny man, I saw him live and he was so funny.

This is absolutely true!!! Why do the good times go so quickly - and the bad stay sooooooooo long! But looking backwards they all seem to have gone in a flash..... we need Einstein to explain this to us.......oh my goodness your comedian made me laugh.........

        • Goldfinch60

          Thank you Lorna.
