The Godly And Ungodly

orchidee

Tune: Song 1

('Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round')

Psalm 1

********

Places in life, walking, standing, sitting

Who shall be blessed, have lives so befitting?

They that walk not in counsel ungodly

Nor that stand in way of sinners, not be

Nor sit in the seat of the proud, scornful

But avoid these states, steer clear of them all

They who are blessed, they delight in the law

Of the LORD, and by it they set great store

In His law do they focus, meditate

Day and night of things that be true and great

Yes, spending time always in His pursuits

And so shall be like a tree with deep roots

Like a tree planted by the rivers pure

Which shall then bring forth fruit in season sure

Their leaves also shall not wither or fade

Whatsoe'er they do shall prosper, fine grade

The ungodly not so, but in their day

Are like the chaff which the wind drives away

Therefore ungodly in [the] judgement [shall] not stand

Nor sinners in the congregation's land

For the LORD knows the way of righteous, see

But way of ungodly perished shall be

Continue in His way, follow His word

And love and serve Him, He our living Lord

Fine write Orchidee. The Holy Spirit moved your pen well. To contemplate the law is to gain wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. The fruit: happiness; even while suffering illness, a deprivation of sorts (perhaps financially), etc. The Psalms are a rich treasure, available to anyone who would venture to open one up and thoughtfully muse over it.

This fluctuation between metres is interesting indeed. Your dedication indeed is respected friend.

Thanks Nicholas. Ooh I must get me metres right, or I lose sleep. I mean, the songs will go haywire else! lol.

THANKS STEVE ~ Great paraphrase on Psalm 1 ~ Loved it and the hymn as well ! In our midweek Prayer Meeting we only have one Pianist so we often have to sing A CAPELLA (it is legal in Essex). However sometimes we simply recite the Hymn ~ as written in the Hymn Book ~ This is always a great blessing and I wonder why we don't do it more often. We always recite the Lord's Prayer so why not GUIDE ME O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH etc ! Your BRIAN

Thanks Brian. I dread the spot in some places where they sing the Psalm. Is it a fiendish plot to trip up the congregation? Only the choir know the tune, and the rest of us 'murder the Psalm', as I heard it described - horrid expression! It's not good enough. It's a disgrace really. Why can't they sing it them to well-known tunes? Or as you say, they do have 'said' Psalms sometimes.

            Good one Orchi.

Thanks Gold - Song 1 for Psalm 1. Bit of an unimaginative hymn-tune title, but there you go! Dunno how many tunes the author wrote.
