Mrs BROWN

Michael Edwards

MRS BROWN

My poor ears

were assaulted

so I put on

my coat

( an old grey one)

and slipped

quietly

out of the house.

I walked

slowly,

(no one saw me)

and I whistled

(no one heard me),

and I kept walking;

When I reached

the viaduct,

there was Mrs Brown

(the gossip).

she was wearing

pink night wear.

She was

putting out

the bins

(and looking very cold).

Mrs Brown

looked up

and saw me

and beckoned me

with her bony finger.

I gave her my

‘How nice to see you’

smile;

and she started

talking

and talking.

I mumbled

and nodded

at the right times,

(I’ve no idea what

she was talking about).

and then

she asked:

‘How are you?’

I told her

my prostate

was playing up

(quick thinking on my part)

and I said

‘I need a wee’

(I didn’t really).

Well

it worked

I managed

to get away

and I went back home

(where I slumped in my armchair0

and my wife

(who sat beside me)

started talking about

(guess what),

yes

Mrs Brown

( the gossip).

The Mrs Browns of this world are always out there, they mean no harm but cannot stop talking.
    Good fun write Michael.

  • orchidee

  • Resa71

    Very enjoyable read !

    • Michael Edwards

Thanks Resa - I started this some time ago and every time I go back to it I adjust it in some way. Even now seeing it on screen I can see some more amendments - it will probably change yet again should you re-visit.

      "She's Mrs Brown"

Yes indeed MIKE they are everywhere !
Even on the Telly "Mrs Brown's Boys"
But I am sure you never watch it !
ANGELA loves it as so many of her
      private massage & physio clients
Are just like Mrs Brown & Granddad !

Love the EL GRECO shape of the poem
Love the DAFFS ! Yours as ever BRIAN !

      • Michael Edwards

Thanks Brian,. I did watch the very first show transmitted before the series began and laughed my head off, the next one I saw I chuckled, then the next was okay and after that I'd seen them all before and they got boring.

        Loved it, Michael!
        You have Mrs. Brown and
        we have Blanca...once she
        gets my attention, she
        never stops!
By the way, she’s the one
        responsible for all the stray
        cats in my mom’s neighborhood!
I enjoyed the read and the
        beautiful daffodils!

          Thank you Laura
They are everywhere. Being free verse I thought this would be an easy write - but as I said above I kept returning to it and altering it - I've even altered it since I first posted it this morning - think it's about there now - until the next time I look at it !! 🙂

          • Laura🌻

            Looking forward to reading it...
            although the one posted is
            just fine!😊

          • ron parrish aka wordman

          • Lorna

Mrs. Brown may be the downside to charming little villages! Where do you go to get away! Loved your new style Michael!

            • Michael Edwards

A quiet walk down by the river (mind you we don't have a viaduct in the village - just a disused railway line which is now a wild life sanctuary ) - trouble is with the rain we've had over the last couple of days it's now overflowing so you need wellies or a boat. The trouble is when it rains over a long period it can overflow into the village - never threatened my place as yet and with flood prevention measures now in place it shouldn't be a problem.
