Redemption Riches

Tune: Langran (St Agnes)

('Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face')

John 19 v.17-42 parts

********

Your heart was pierced, your side for me riven

When you on cross your life for me given

Your hands, feet, nailed, though innocent you be

You suffered there for me upon the tree

Yet 'tis good news for us, you took my place

And too for every soul of every race

Sharp thorns in crown adorned your head, for so

That all the world your salvation should know

Not ritual alone, but relationship

We forgiven, come to you to worship

Eternal life you give, your Spirit free

To take up in our hearts residency

For born of Him, your Spirit, we your sons

And daughters, here through Christ, sanctified ones

By grace you our Father, and family

Of believers you us unite to be

Dark, dark the hours, though it was day time

You took upon yourself each sin, each crime

Though by you none committed, no, not one

Redemption's work you finished, by you done

In your love, you obedient to death

Then resurrection, returns vital breath

Laid low in tomb, not there to stay alway

But to rise again, glorious  third day

Of interlude 'tween death, resurrection

All hope seemed gone of you, the holy one

But daybreak of third day's morn soon did break

You Victor when tomb's stone moved, earth did quake

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. metre, hopefully linking Good Friday with Easter Saturday (Easter Eve). We may forget the earthquake, as it's not in every gospel. Yet we would have known it, had we been there!

THANKS STEVE ~ For a Wonderful Easter Hymn and Poem to bridge GOOD FRIDAY & EASTER SUNDAY ~ we sometimes call it "Remembrance Saturday" when we can reflect on the infinite Blessings of the Death & Resurrection of Our Lord & Saviour JESUS CHRIST ~ AMEN Love the Communion Hymn "Here O our Lord we see thee face to face" Communion for me ~ wherever I am in the World ~ is always a Great Blessing ! Once a 'deja vu' in "OLD EPHESUS" with a French Group ~ One could sense the presence of Brother PAUL ! I've jumped the Gun # And posted RESURRECTION today ~ please check ~ thanks BRIAN

Thanks Brian. I'm 'grumbling!' oops. At some places they have Communion only monthly, and may just 'fit it in'. I suppose we need variety. Just because I've been used to it being the central part of services nearly every time, it don't mean each church is going to cater for ME alone. You know it - 'If one happens to find a perfect church, don't join it, or one will spoil it!'

Thanks STEVE ~ I sometimes worship with the Open Christian Brethren who devote the whole of the Sunday Morning Service to a "Spirit Led" Breaking of Bread Service ! no set hymns or prayers or sermons ~ the Brothers (and now in some Assemblies the Sisters as well) just take part audibly as the Spirit moves ~ it works and the sense of Christ's presence is awesome. The Brethren always have a morning "Breaking of Bread" every Sunday Morning ~ in some Assemblies it is followed by a Family Service. The Brethren Movement in the UK started in 1832 mainly as a split from the Church of England. the call themselves "Pattern Churches" and seek to follow the Pattern of the First Century Churches (AD 33 ~ 100) as outlined in the Book of Acts and the New Testament Letters by Paul and others ! Open Brethren Assemblies are administered by Elders normally all Male ~ and Deacons (may include Deaconesses !). None of the Church leaders are paid a salary and a policy of "Priesthood of Believers" obtains ~ Yours BRIAN.

        Great work Orchi

Thanks Michael. it's called a 'feast'. Well, it's a spiritual feast. But not a lot for our physical bodies - a wafer/small piece of bread and sip of wine. It's daft, I think, where some people don't eat on a Sunday until they have taken Communion (no brekkie). Well, it's meaningful to them, I suppose. A sort of mini-fast.
And in Ramadan they raid the fridge in the hours of darkness!

          A beautiful message, Orchi!
          Thank you for the music
sheet! I will attempt to play
          it for my mom...since she’s
not able to go to church
          tomorrow...she’s home bound!
