EPIGRAM No1
The tenor sang out and his voice hit the heights
like the wail of a cat on storm-ridden nights.
Epigrams are short satirical poems ending with
either a humorous retort or a stinging punchline.
Used mainly as expressions of social criticism
or political satire, the most common forms are
written as a pair of rhymed lines in the same meter.

Ahh so you know my cousin, a professional singer?! He taught me to sing, ya know! Meoowwooo!heehee.
He was singing out to his girlfriend in the window above:
' Hiya Cinth you look bloomin' today'
An old English ballad.
Ahh, I know it well!
You were listening to Orchi then!
I could hear him singing here in the middle shires.
Michael! And your explanation is longer and much more serious than the poem..... I laughed! If you see Orchi's entry this morning, after the organ plays another video title appears "How to Fix Flat Singing" - that just set me off and I'm giggling myself silly (er)..... you three are a riot.......Oh! And I have a hyacinth growing in the middle of some snowdrops (who appear to migrate every year and show up in a new place)........ it's a bloomin' miracle......
Had to smile myself when you pointed out the serious explanation. As for flat singing I've just put forward one way under your comment for Orchi's latest posting.
I've got several hyacinths in bloom but it's now pooring and am already soaking wet so can't photo them - went to the Botanic Gardens with my grandson this morning and we sketched in the dry in the greenhouses - but then had to get to the car drrrr.
You UK whoosies....... a little cold and snow and you\'re in the car! Over here in the Northeast USA it\'s get tough or die! Ask Accidental Poet....... he\'s in Massachusetts on the coast! Seriously, isn't it nice that you and your grandson sketch together! He must love that.......
He' six and a real delight but beginning to find his feet a bit now so we do have to be a bit more strict in the nicest sense. He just loves drawing with me .
You are making memories!!!! artiste de souvenirs.......
At my age not long to remember them in but I know young Seb will treasure the memories.
Well that's you too! Michael Edwards ad infinitum!
Michael,
All I can say is...
Loved the pic and the epigram...thank you for the explanation! The rest has been well said by Lorna! She must have be a professional editor...and a great one at that...infusing comedy into her comments! I love it!
The comments amongst you, Lorna, Gold, and Orchi are very entertaining! Great reads! Thank you!
~Laura~
Laura - are you saying our erudite and informative discussions are anything other than educational?
Another epigram tomorrow folks on a screen near you.
Au contraire mon ami...very scholarly indeed!😉
Looking forward to tomorrow’s epigram to be featured on the screen in my hand!
Thanks MICHAEL ~ love the blooms ~ My MUM's are hya cinth I saw them on Sunday ~ It's the Rain. I'm on holiday from College and it's sunny here (Essex) so I'm reaching the parts if the Garden ~ She & Dad can't reach ! We only have grass round the flats but I have an indoor pot of HYACINTHS nice smell !
Our English Teacher taught us an EPIGRAM ~ Was like a TELEGRAM short but more PITHY ! At 14 we thought PITHY sounded like a rude lavatorial word ! Growing up was such fun ! Please check my latest POEM ~ There are TEN Mild epigrams ! Yours JOHN
Love the pithy fun in this Epigram - I think quite a few who think they sing on key sound like a Tom to my ears Michael. - that picture of Hyacinths is so clear I can breathe in their scent. Good work again.
Thanks Fay - I wrote three of these - to follow.
Great epigram and your explanation of it. Refreshing garden blooms!
Thank you Christina.
