WITH RESOLUTION
Although the path we walk is firm
the sea of sorrow ebbs and flows
with tidal waves of deep despair
and clad in armour of reserve
our careless footsteps seek the shore
where censored souls seek sanctuary.
We board within a sheltered place
protected from the driving blasts
and ride the gales which rage the seas
to take possession of our thoughts
and aspirations that we seek
set deep within the vessels hold.
Now resolute with turning tides
and griefs dark shadow left behind.

Super sonnet, always leave the shadows behind you.
Did you get the rhubarb and ginger gin?
Thanks Andy - no I'm a cheapskate - it wasn't on offer but sloe gin was so I got that instead. I'm going to be busy today - helping with a rummage sale in aid of Saltpond - a charity supporting and providing education in a deprived African village. Always a bit of an experience when the doors open.
A fine write M. Sounds a bit hymnal. I could maybe turn it to a hymn-poem, if you wish?
We got a bit of rhubarb at back of our garden. You on that gin yet?!
Please do turn it into a hymn poem - I'd feel honoured. No - too early for the gin even for me.
Some vivid imagery there, I could see rough seas, though I am not sure I could paint them.
Not sure if I could either - thanks for looking in.
I loved the poem and riding with the sea of sorrows...... can you tell me what you meant by "censored souls" - your garden nook is so cozy and inviting!
Censored - not sure I know either Lol It was a case of finding the right word which fitted the meter of the line - censored = suppressed (by grief's dark shadow) but suppressed doesn't have the same flow - so censored it was.
Yes love sitting there - the door to the right is the garden storeroom and the studio is on the left as you view the photo.
A superb sonnet.
Brilliant write.
Keep writing

Thanks FineB - I appreciate your comments.
Michael,
A great sonnet! I love your garden...especially that view outside your studio! I can picture you and your wife sitting there enjoying your gin and tonic! Perfect pic! Thank you for indulging us with your beautiful pics and super writes! Enjoy your day at the rummage sale. I hope a lot of funds are raised for a very worthy cause!
~Laura~
Back now - been on my feet from 9am till 4.30pm and enjoying a glass of - ....wait for it..... - wine. The sale did well and as soon as I have caught up on social media I'll crash out. h
Hmmm...Wine...that’s my dinner drink! What kind of wine do you like?
By the way...I researched Saltpond! It seems like a worthwhile town to help!
Have a good night! 😴
Red with a preference for Merlot - but as long as it's red.
This is the charity Laura - off to bed now

For me...Merlot...depending on the vineyards and vintage! I do like Chianti. Some members of my family in Italy were a producer of it!
Thank you for the website! I shall look into it!
Thanks MICHAEL for composing and sharing this excellent 6-6-2 Blank verse sonnet ! I can emphasise with the metaphor of Life & Sailing ! I was raised on the W Coast and live on the E Coast and have spent many hours "messing about in boats" I have lots of salt in my Blood Stream. Verse 1. When you are in mid-ocean ~ You always long for the shore Verse 2. WE learn more about the reality of life "afloat" than on the shore ! Verse 3. Sailors always believe the next cruise will be the BEST ! My Parents have a Patio outside the french Windows and this afternoon (55F) I enjoyed a Pot of Earl Grey and scones ! thanks for Sharing ~ BRIAN.
Thanks Brian - ah yes earl Grey - another of life's luxuries. I can recall being stuck in Sardinia in the heat because the airport was closed due to heavy mist - we had a pot of EG - one of the best drinks We've ever had and the pot was huge.
Just the place for a drink and some quiet contemplation Michael -- love that sonnet with such positive finalé.
