Easter Extempore

orchidee

Tune: Lux Eoi

('Alleluia, Alleluia! Hearts to heaven and voices raise')

*******

Alleluia! God of heaven

You to us your Son have given

We recall again, Easter-tide

On the cross He suffered, died

But that not the end, for He sure

On third day rose evermore

Thus to live, ne'er to die again

And be Saviour of all men (mankind)

Can we believe, can we trust this?

It shall bring us lasting bliss

And to share, to evangelise

That Christ open inward eyes

Eyes of hearts, give understanding

Knowledge, light, and faith us bring

Simply trusting, loving, showing

Others Christ is Lord and King

Awesome earthquake, resurrection

Women at tomb did find then

Angel sitting in the tomb there

And glad tidings he did bear

For he said, Christ, He is not here

Go to Galilee, not fear

For there you shall see Him risen

Hope, joy, peace unto all men (mankind)

For the sting of death He removed

Victor over it He proved

Bore our sins and our transgressions

We become His daughters, sons

Freed, forgiven, if repentant

Jesus He from God was sent

Alleluia! God of heaven

You to us your Son have sent

Death has no sting, the body may go but the Spirit within us goes on for eternity.

Thanks God. Yes, wasp sting is nasty. Not that I've been stung for years, thankfully.

    • Nicholas Browning

At this point I'm sure you know that I'm not religious in any way, Orch. But I really do enjoy reading this stuff. It's inspiring.

      • orchidee

Thanks Nicholas. Some just wish to comment on the style, form, etc of the poems. A bit of evangelising in the background? heehee. But it can't be forced on people.

        • Nicholas Browning

It's a lot more than the form, or the style. It's the dedication my good sir.

          • orchidee

I try..... lol. But that's partly the point - not doing it in me own strength. Though it's me that's writing the poems, and not in any spooky trance or anything like that!

            • Nicholas Browning

What do you mean not in your own strength?

              • orchidee

Erm, well I mean, somehow I don\'t write these poems (the hymn-poem type of poems) by myself, but with inspiration. God's Spirit guiding me, I mean, working through my mind and thoughts, I would say.

                • Nicholas Browning

In your eyes that should be labeled a God-given gift. A personal triumph I would say. You're worth more than you believe, sir.

                  • orchidee

Well, yes, I'm thankful then for this God-given gift. Yet I can't have the 'glory' in saying that I thought all these up by myself. I want it to be for God's glory. He can have the glory without it becoming pride, boasting, etc. Though we, and I, can feel good and welcome appreciative comments that are made.

                    • Nicholas Browning

I'm glad you can accept the appreciation my good man. But all of a sudden, there's a plot hole. If I'm giving you all the glory, then that means you have to accept it right? Hah! Pulled a fast one on you too. Lawless is gonna kill me.
But in all seriousness, I see it as a man's talent. Your talent, dedication; Your spirit and everything else. I can't dismiss you from not taking full credit, but as long as you accept some I will be at ease.

If you don't mind me butting in I echo all that Nicholas says - you are an inspiration Orchi.

Cooeee good to see ya there M! Oh well, I won't brag about it, or I shall have to eat humble pie. And how does one make such a pie?!

                          • Michael Edwards

Can't make it until Autumn - humbles are out of season at the moment.
