UNWINESQUE

Michael Edwards

UNWINESQUE

Blowdly glusts blewed open plain

all bringled with precipitations

globulets and drizzlications

runny downloads windy panes.

Umbrolly held in clenchy brace

with blowlot rustling whistly past

and pandies tight in windles grasp

as outwards inwards twisty space.

Tressburns driplogged dangling

dripples on the runny noseloads

wipe it from the dangly ear nodes

down the rearward rivrops drivling.

Back indoors with driplots sopping

quake umbrolly dripply flying

coat unbuttled quickless drying

popple down all limbly flopping.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Probably not known outside the UK but Professor Stanley Unwin was a popular act on the TV over a number of years. He spoke in gobbledygook and yet it always made sense. I've attempted to recreate the way he spoke which was hilarious when you saw him on screen. There are a few clips of him on YouTube if anyone's interested. ...........................................Also one of my Modigliani inspired monotype prints.

        That was an enjoyable read!
It worked well with the weather. ๐Ÿ˜Š

        • Michael Edwards

Yes it's still drizzlicating but should turn soon - hot weather on its way. Thanks Sylvia.

I wonder how it would make a poem about the sun sound?

Stanley Unwin was surely a one off and a very funny, intelligent man.
Good write and take off of him Michael.

Liked the "Modligiani" art as well.

In the news a Chagall stolen in the eighties has been returned to its owner. I like Chagall.

            • Michael Edwards

Thanks Andy - he certainly used to keep me laughing - yes Chagall was a great artist who led the way in his genre.

            • Nicholas Browning

The last stanza was hilarious. Limbly flopping, oh the sight. A fine work all the same. Versatility must be your middle name. There's just no other way.

              • Michael Edwards

Cheers Nicholas - I like the line as well - a good to finish with - the alternative was 'limbly floppus' - not sure if I chose the right one! ๐Ÿ™‚

Both are of the golden variety.

I should be too young to know him but I am familiar... one line he used to say that stuck with me was "Electricol follly on da fingol" Your print came out nice too, great textures to the central shapes.

                  • Michael Edwards

He was just great and lived in a village not far from mine. One of my favourites was:
                    all knackeritt from the travelode

Yes I've done a number of these prints and also done a few demos which always go down well.
Thanks for your comments - much appreciated.

I thought that's what I have been doing! A lot of nonsense!

                      • myself and me

Really enjoy the writing. Always curious how do you create the perfect color on the paint.

Thanks m&m - can't help you with the colours other than to say I work with a limited palette (only 8 colours) and get to know how they all work when mixed or used independently.

ELVIS PRESLEY ~ Swivel - Hippy rhythmic contrapole of the wobblemode of the hipper ! Sideways and with the head a tilty and doggy expression in the eyebold conveyed to the femailode of the species ! This was coupled with a trilty - how on the strims syncypole with his voicemode which reduced teenimodes to hysterium ~ AMEN

There was only one Stanley Unwin (d. 2002) and at parties my Dad used to embarrass us my doing his speeches and party pieces in UNWINESE !

Thanks for sharing and reviving memories of the
last Century ! A fine tribute to STANLEY

Wow you certainly got the feel of his hilarious wording Michael - - if I tried to imitate that I would never be able to return to the norm - great piece of humour and so cleverly wrought.

                          • Michael Edwards

Thanks Fay - it proved more difficult than I expected and made me realise what a talent PSU was

                            Michael,

I like the Modigliani inspired artwork!
                            Great work my friend!

Thanks Laura - I still smile when I read it and I wrote it - how smug is that?
