The Return of the Dove.

Goldfinch60

I stood in front of the painting

Entranced by what I saw.

How can it be done?

This artistry,

This love that shines out,

Shines out from the image

And fills my heart with emotion.

The emotion of brilliance

That comes to life in me,

From the soul of the artist.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I saw this picture, "The Return of the Dove to the Ark" by John Millais at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford last week. The photograph does not do the painting justice. I stood in front of it amazed at the detail, the straw on the ground could have been a photograph and the feather on the sleeve of one of the girls was so well detailed, the though of putting just a feather there amazed me. A man stood next to me and we chatted and he was as amazed as I was - and he was an art teacher! So much art - so little time.

A fine write and pic Gold. Yep, it's 'arty season' again. Well, we don't want to travel far in mid-winter. Some shows coming up that I hope to attend soon.

Thank you Orchi, the Pre-Raphaelites are my favourite group of artists.

And - did you see me at the Ashmolean one day? Are we both in the Bayeux Tapestry that is in some museums?

      • Goldfinch60

The Bayeaux is not at the Ashmolean - yet!

Heehee there\'s a copy of it at our local museum. I best look more closely to spot us both in it. Any copies with us not in it are forgeries!

Thank you Brian, I wish I knew as much about art as I do about music, but I am slowly learning but I should have started journey about fifty tears ago!

You have me staring at the picture and becoming more and more in awe of whoever could capture such detail with paint. It's almost eerie.....

              • Goldfinch60

The photograph does not do the painting justice, it is quite amazing, as are all the Pre-Raphaelites of whom William Holman Hunt is my favourite.
Thank you for your marvellous comments Lorna.

Aw I wish to be part of the picture kissing the sweet dove. Your poem is equally sweet touching and heartwarming. Artistic too as it brings out the emotion in the painting to life in brevity. Thumbs up..
