HIS SCENT.

Fay Slimm.

His Scent

I still catch his fragrance in
memory's breeze
Drifting lonely thru dreams
each breath it teases.

I breathe in his odour evoked
by deep yearning.
It wakes hopes I still keep
that he may return.

Slowly scent spreads itself in
breaks of each dawn.
Great moments of essence
which both knew before

A few months back his aroma
perfumed all my now
Yet common sense knows I
will move on somehow.

Are you kidding me? That last stanza is a gold mine I tell you what. I've seen a lot of synonyms for the use of the word "Present" but just simply saying "all my now" nearly took my breath away. Wow. I have a lot to learn it would seem. Absolutely remarkable.

This was just lovely Fay. Common sense might tell you what it will but whenever you catch that scent everything comes back........ (Fay was this a death of someone you knew or just a parting?)

          • Fay Slimm.

Oh I agree dear Lorna - scent gives much more than just an odour - - and yes it was sudden death which brought a parting - - - - thank you my friend for your comment.

Absolutely wonderful writing. You are a magician of words producing a spectacle of delight from plain english.
I feel the emotion spilling here. You have gone straight to the heart of the deepest feeling of loss.
                  A MUST for my favourites.
