SHE SHOPPED AT LIDL

Michael Edwards

A snobbish girl called Tessa Tindall

regarded herself as upper-middle

and always caused the tongues to wag

because she used a Waitrose bag

whenever she shopped at Lidl.

  • Comment from author about the poem: For those not familiar Waitrose is a quality food store which can be quite expensive. (jokingly the domain of the upper-middles classes). Lidl is a budget food store (jokingly where upper-middle only shop if they have a bag over their heads).------------The garden is currently afire with red tulips - sadly they don't last all that long.

Good fun write, strangely the poem that I am about to put up to day is about a lady at Morrisons where I do the main weekly shop.

    A great write, Michael!
I’m glad you explained about Waitrose and Lidl! This reminds me of some of the ladies I use to work with showing off their fake Gucci or Chanel or Louis Vuitton handbags! They were only fooling themselves! I guess it made them feel special...But that’s ok...no harm done to the rest of us who might wear the real stuff! We all knew where we came from!

Beautiful red tulips. Nothing fake about them! 😉

I think We've all come across ladies like that - thanks Laura pleased you liked it.

Ohh there's all weird and wonderful stuff at Waitrose. You get those quails eggs from Lidl?!
Grrr - you can only use self-service tills at Waitrose if you pay by credit card. is cash too 'common' for them?!

      • Michael Edwards

Quails eggs - are they ones which keep wavering?
cash is so common don't you know.

Thanks MICHAEL ~ Being a Scouse Socialist I always try to get things a LIDL bit cheaperso I shop @ ALDI because AL DI food is cheaper than Waitrose & Sainsbury's ~ Why worry about QUALITY when you can get QUANTITY and you always have one hungry mouth (mine !) to feed ! loved your Lidl Ditty !
Thanks for "Putting you TULIPS a little closer to the PHONE" so we could all see them ! Like so many beautiful things ~ their beauty is SO SO TRANSIENT ! yours BRIAN

        • Michael Edwards

Thanks Brian - it's written in a sort of limerick style - we shop at Aldi all the time and do use Waitrose for those items not available in Aldi - I'm a London socialist so we do have some things in common - actually the quality in Aldi and Lidl is pretty high although there is, of course, a limited choice.

Funny Michael! Sounds like Hyacinth Bucket................

          • Michael Edwards

Yes - hadn't thought of that but is sure does sum up dear Hyacinth.

Ha ha - - I have seen that done Michael - - bags by the load are needed now and the posh ones are shown by those in the know.

            • Michael Edwards

Done it myself I have to admit BUT I've also used an Aldi bag in other supermarkets. Cheers Fay.

Oohh it's the Co-op for me! That's not posh, is it?! Do they do Green Sheild stamps?

              • Michael Edwards

Still do the divi don't they?
The one that really makes me laugh every time I see it is a local drinks store called SuperBooze and displayed under its name are the words: 'Purveyors Of Fine Wine'.

                • orchidee

Oh lol. I saw a huge sign 'Stationary Store'. Did it stand still, even if it sold stationery?!

                • onepauly

                  simply put.
                  keep up the inspiration.
