LANTURNES BY THREE

Michael Edwards

LANTURNES by THREE

A

shower

of incense,

like gentle rain,

soothes.

Words

written

when exposed

to the hot sun

fade.

Was

Adam

embarrassed

by the autumn

fall ?

The Lanturne is a five-line verse shaped like a

Japanese lantern with a syllabic pattern of one,

two, three, four, one.

Good writes Michael, I like all three.

    A
    bouquet
    of flowers
    to wake up your
    nose.

    Black
    liquid
    in a well,
    dip the feather
    pen.

    Eve
    always
    there to keep
    him warm with a
    smile!

    Michael,
I love that sculpture and the write! I thought of three of my own. I hope they can keep yours company!

Brilliant Laura - you really must post them here in the gallery.
      .
Pleased you like the sculpture - it looks good in a modern home and is about 18ins long. I could charge (and get) a fortune if it was cast in bronze but being wood it's not so desirable - I've got to put a price on it ready for an open studio event next weekend.

      • Laura🌻

Thank you for the inspiration, Michael!
If I post them, would they make any sense without yours?

I suppose it will be very difficult to put a price on the sculpture! After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Maybe you should auction it off.

        • Michael Edwards

yes of course they would - they all stand in their own right - look forward to seeing them in the gallery.

If the sculpture was in bronze by an established artist it could fetch anything from £2 to £3000 (gallery price) but being in wood it would be more in the range £250 to £350 - but I doubt if it would achieve even that in a local auction.

A fine write and pic Michael. Or in one case, in no poetic form:
A shower of incense at church
          Covered us in a cloud
          Couldn't see a thing
          Brought on an asthma attack
          For some poor soul
          Sitting too near the front
And got the full blast of the incense!

It was hymn in the second row sitting next to Carol Singer - Sir Mon I think his name is. Lol 🙂

            • orchidee

You seen Carol Singer? Why we only see her at Christmas?! hmmm.

              • Michael Edwards

                🙂

Wow ... and your 2nd verse and your sculpture are perfect together..........

                • Michael Edwards

Thanks so much Lorna - I'll be posting another sculpture picture tomorrow and about to finish off a third one. The sun is streaming into the garden at the moment but I've got a heavy cold and the sun on my head will probably make my headache worse. They call it Sod's Law!!

Love the verse and sculpture Michael. I'd take the wood version over the bronze and not because it was less $$. I believe it to be worth more as the original piece.

                  • Michael Edwards

Thanks AP - pity the market place doesn't recognise the beauty of wood. I.ve just been looking through one of Christies catalogues of small bronze pieces coming up for auction and the guide prices are staggering.

                    • Accidental Poet

Bronze might have the buyers eye right now Michael, But I believe the natural qualities of wood will resurface and you'll do much better with your sculpture. It deserves more.

                    • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks MIKE for lighting the LANTURNES for us today ~ Lovely form ~ lovely trio !

                      Adam was a silly man
                      He gets no pardoner
                      Cos he was a GARDENER
                      He should have known
Life of a LEAF in the Fall is brief !

Thanks for caring ~ BRIAN !
