A COUPLE OF COUPLETS

Michael Edwards

The stern voice of conscience

promotes the worst fears.

Memories which fade in life

are soonest lost in death.

    Very good couplets Michael.

We have a couple of those poppies in our garden - goodness knows where they came from!

    • Michael Edwards

They spread like wild fire but are very welcome. The red ones are smaller but do stand out and there is a double form but, like the reds, are not often seen.

A fine couple of couplets, and pic Michael. Is memories of me singing soon lost, or remembered for ever, even haunting ya after death?! heehee.

      • Michael Edwards

Trouble is no one dead has ever confirmed it.

Thanks MIKE ~ Love free verse couplets ~ they say much in very few words ! Love all poppies as delicate and lovely as lingerie ! Thanks BRIAN

Your garden pictures are poems in themselves! And I adore the silver in the garden peeking out..........not sure I understand the second couplet - if they fade in life, why soonest in death?

        • Michael Edwards

Thanks Lorna - the silver plant is a senecio - a useful foliage plant. . Anent the second couplet - not sure I understand it either - from my own experience those faded memories I have of departed ones tend to be far overshadowed by the poignant ones which usually relate to the individual and how we wish to remember them. Does that make sense?

            Yes! Now I see -

They all came back from the dead - they couldn't stay dead, cos they couldn't stand my singing!

            • Michael Edwards

Did the memories return? So much to ponder and you can't beat a good pond.

'Memory' song from about 1981 - just call me Barbra (Streisand)!

                Michael,
Great couplets and a great pic! Iā€™ve never seen that color poppies before...only the red variety in my grandmotherā€™s wheat fields in Italy when I was very young and later in life on menā€™s jacketā€™s lapel!

The yellow Welsh poppy is very common here in the UK and at its best at the moment - they are only about 12 ins tall and are herbaceous - also they seed all over the place - the red variant is in fact quite rare and ran out of time to photo it today but will do so over the next few days and post it

You have shown you can say much with so little and a beautiful image as well.

Really appreciate your comments - thanks so much lasergraph.
