Birds Now Fed - FIBS

Goldfinch60

I

Glance

Outside,

Blackbirds sing

Looking back at me,

As if to say where is our food.

So into the garden I go with fruit and seed,

The bird table is now covered

With both seed and fruit.

The bird winks

At me.

All’s

Well

  • Comment from author about the poem: I feed the birds every day, at the moment they are getting through a kilo of sultanas each day plus what ever seed I put out. FIBS is a Fibonacci sequence where the number of syllables in the previous two lines make the number of syllables in the next line - 1,1,2,3,5,8,13. This poem continues as a reverse FIB as well.

A lovely write and clip Gold. We have pigeons (maybe a family), magpies, and big kestrels. The other birds fly off when they swoop down.

Thanks Orchi. We have many birds in the garden including the occasional sparrowhawk, once they fly in we do not see any more birds for about an hour - wonderful birds though, I have taken pictures of them feeding in our garden.

      It would mount up hugely after 13 syllables - 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, etc!

      • Goldfinch60

Oh yes, I have gone up to twenty one in the passed.

I suppose we could maybe make whole verses/stanzas when the syllables increased. But 55 per stanza maybe the limit, or we would be in big muddles.

It's so satisfying feeding them - a great FIBS Andy.

Thank you Michael, it is one of our many joys to watch the birds in the garden.

Thanks ANDY for lovely Birdsong on a sunny Spring Morning in ESSEX ! Love the Fibonacci Sequence ~ it give a poem great shape ~ love the message of the poem too ~ RSPB ! My MUM has a French Window and outside is a pond ~ birdbaths ~ bird-table with food and peanuts in cages ! I keep telling he "God feeds the Birds" and she say "I'm just giving GOD a bit of help !" Same at College we have a big pond and a wild live ecology area and allotment which is the responsibility of the Environmental Studies Section in the Science Department ! Thanks Brian, feeding the birds cost us a fortune but it is always worth it with the joy they give to us.

Loved this and I'm laughing Andy because I faithfully feed the birds BUT we have a roaming bear who circulates in the warmer months so at night I have to take the feeders inside or he destroys them (I've never seen him - my neighbor has - he is 6 feet high standing according to him - so never want to see him either!).... In winter I faithfully trudge out there in covered nightwear to shovel around the feeder so they can get to the fallen seed - and throw down extra on the ground for the squirrels and chipmunks... but can't do that in summer because of the wild turkeys that flock and hog the area if I do......... baffles on the birdstand of course to keep squirrels out of the actual feeder....... a lot of fun figuring out all this wild life!

It is a pity you haven't seen the bear, we do not get many roving bears in the UK!
In our previous house we have squirrels feeding from the bird feeders it was so interesting to watch how they got the food, I ended up buying more feeders as they were destroying them - I fixed it eventually - I moved and where we are now there aren't any squirrels, which is a pity really.

They may eventually come to follow you like a dog. Doesn't take them long to figure where their sustenance is coming from.

Very true, I can put food on the bird table and one of the blackbirds joins me as I do it. A friend of mine had a robin who tapped on the window if there was no food.

                  Andy,
A great clip! I enjoyed listening to the birds! They’re magical!
I let my mom listen to the whole hour of “Garden birds, blackbird song. Sounds of Nature Blackbird 1 hour of Blackbird’s Song”! She enjoyed it...didn’t close her eyes once!
                  Interesting Fibonacci sequence! Great work!
