Lunacy..
Silenced her screaming down she goes.
Clawing the ground her branching toes.
Crack of soft limbs adds sobs to sound.
Breaking her back she drops to ground.
Loggers work fast in successive blows.
Another one rocks and down she goes.
Rooted forests diminish in tropic skies.
Forgotten the rule that soil denutrifies.
No matter the future all trees must fall.
Careless abuse given no thought at all.
Another one axed then down she goes.
Crashes to floor in death's final throes.
Planet's oxygenation lopped by greed.
Violation's defacing does not concede.
Leaves purify air as reason well knows.
Lunacy governs as down each tree goes.

Like the plastic in the ocean..... the saddest proof that mankind will self-destruct. Your poem does justice to the problem. There are some hopeful sites on internet that show some wonderful progress being made to fix problems so maybe the young people will be more aware...... for their sakes, I hope so.....

When I’m in NYC, as a lifetime member of a Community Board, I attend their meetings. The subject of passing a city law/ordinance to stop homeowners from cementing their lawns to make a parking space for their cars always comes up! I cannot believe how difficult it is! It takes years! It’s unbelievable!

Ye so much depends on the interests vested in things of this nature my friend. Wealth at the expense of the planet will never be wise. Am pleased the final line of my verse appealed to you Lorna. Thank you for sharing your own concerns on the subject too.
YES FAY ~ The UK used to be covered in FOREST now it's less than 10 % (The USA is still 50%) You have alluded to the symbiosis between Flora & Fauna ~ Plants inhale CO2 and exhale O2 and the animals vice-versa ! For years this maintained the CO2 @ 250ppm and its now over 400ppm due to Industrial CO2 and deforestation !
Unfortunately the POLITICIANS ~ who make these decisions are LUNATICS and ignorant of CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABILITY ! Al Gore (A Conservationist) would have made a Great Green President ~ Trump is an ecological disaster ! Thanks for caring ~ Yours as ever !
