His sound is with me,
That genius of cool jazz,
Now in his heaven,
Weaving his spell in my soul,
But playing for the Angels.

- Comment from author about the poem: Chet Baker died this day, 5th May 1988, he is my favourite jazz trumpeter he makes the trumpet playing sound so effortless - believe me it isn't I used to play in a swing band and still play at Church occasionally.

A fine write Gold. At least he can't hear me singing. Or can he now?! lol.
Thanks Orchi, he can hear you but where he is it goes through a heaven sound mill and comes out sounding like music.
It's a beautiful sound - and another great write Andy.
Thank you Michael, yes his sound is wondrous. A few months ago at the Jazz Club I go to once a month I though he had come back, there was a trumpeter that sounded very much like him - you don't hear that sort of sound from other fine trumpeters.
"Come Chet blow your HORN"
Thanks ANDY ~ Brass is an essential element of JAZZ particularly Horn & Bone especially in the Swing Bands. I like to sing (Solo or Chorus) so I have always been a BMG (Banjo ~ Mandoline ~ Guitar) Man ! However I do envy the Horn ~ Clarinet & Sax Players with their amazing solos ~ I do have a go at piano & vibes which affords solo opportunities but the Horn is KING ! Thanks for sharing & caring ! Please check my Poem today and thanks for yours ~ You are a Blessing to MPS ~ Your Friend ~ BRIAN
Thank you Brian, I have been listening to all types of music for over sixty years but jazz and classical are my two top choices, I have played (tried to play) both on trumpet and clarinet but listening to the people who really can play is so much easier and more satisfying.
Chet is in me too, very much so. An amazing history this man had.
But the soft sound of his playing and ruby warm singing voice are unique and he brought out the melancholy from a piece with more depth of feeling than others. The quality of his faltering voice in late years added to the melancholy. An untrained virtuoso, non reader, yet held his own in big bands of his youth before his individual talent shone thru.
Yes this guy is one of my all time music greats. Thank you for writing a fitting tribute to this great talent.
Yes he was a great player and us still with me in his music.
Andy,
A great read and video! Thank you for sharing your writes and music! You are a treasure trove! We’re blessed to have met you on MPS!
I enjoyed the music video!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura, he has a great deal of music to be heard, as it was the day he died yesterday I had his music on for several hours and not one of my albums that I have was repeated.
Wow! You must have a huge music collection!
Couldn't play your video so went and looked for him and found him with horn and also piano - so mellow! He made me think of Hoagy Carmichael for some reason.........
