A new-found freedom was with us,
My love and I could go to more places.
So on that first day we went to the lake.
We looked over the water
That shone like a mirror.
The sun so bright in the sky,
The sky so clear and blue
Except for the streaks of white,
That were painted in it heights.
The green of the trees around us,
Nature at its brand-new ripeness
Surrounded us as we stared,
Stared at the beauty so much missed
In the time of struggle,
Where my lover could not reach this place.
We were now set free
As she sat in her wheelchair,
Delight written all over her,
So relaxed once more,
Now that she, and I,
Were at one with nature.

- Comment from author about the poem: My wife has struggled with mobility for some time so we decided to get her a wheelchair, although it may seem confining it has given us a freedom to go to places that we have missed, especially communing with nature. On our first trip out we went to a lake which we used to walk around, although the ground was not suitable for the wheelchair to go around the lake we could get to the side of the lake and sit with nature.

Ah - sweet and so engaging - great write.
Thank you Michael, it is so strange that a wheelchair gives us a sense of freedom.

Thank you Brian, it is great to get out into the countryside again.
A fine write and pic Gold. Glad you're getting out and about in this freedom. Did you have to 'get your coat' as they say? Or warm enough without one? Weather keeps jumping about these days.
Thank you Orchi. No, no coat, shortsleeved shirt, shorts and sandals are quite adequate in this weather (I don't feel the cold).
Wish I didn't feel the cold. Those motorised wheelchairs can be hazardous. Some come at ya at about 100mph it seems. I have visons of comedy clips. Should those vehicles be on the road, not the path - motorised ones?
Those motorised wheelchairs are worse on the road, there is an old boy in our town that always drives his on the road and one of the roads he goes up is a narrow main road in the town, motorists do shout at him worlds like "I do wish you wouldn't do that!".
A writing as delightful as nature is, thank you for sharing this moment of your lives. To show how the most simplest of things can brings us joy.
I hope the next trip there's no white lines
Thank you Dan, white lines or not the new found freedom is exhilarating.
That is so good to read, especially now that summer is in the air and the buzz of life is all around and to be enjoyed. Natures beauty still rich and green awaiting the suns scorchings.
May you share many more pleasant together times with this new found release.
Thank you da, your comments are much appreciated.
Beautiful images. Great mental pics! There's nothing like communing with nature. Peaceful, calming. I'm so glad she was able to get back to nature.
Andy,
A beautiful read. I’m so happy for your wife and you...together you can enjoy once again the gorgeous English landscape! If it’s anything like the images in the George Butterworth’s music video, both of you are blessed to enjoy such landscape! I wish you both many more of those beautiful days you share and be one with nature once again!
I enjoyed the video very much! The landscape and the rural roads remind me a bit of where my mother was born...a verdant, luscious region!
Enjoy!
