THE LADY DRESSED IN BLACK

Michael Edwards

THE LADY DRESSED IN BLACK

As light was dying in the trees

and trembling evening breezes blew

disarmed by candour he there stood

once more beside her tomb again.

In solitude with pen he wrote

on shining marble statuary

the words unsaid as he recalled

the lady dressed in black.

Very good write Michael, it put me i mind of a Johnny Cash song - https://youtu.be/0TE8445gIBo

Love the abstract, I will need to study that one but I can already see things in it.

I'm rather fond of the abstract - there has been a lot of interest in it but it remains in the studio. It's one of those works which requires a spot light to bring out it's content when it really does sparkle.

A fine write Michael. I didn't see her, dressed in her black. Why not? Well, she was in a coal shed at midnight! Dunno why she was there, but it was somewhat dark then!

She was looking for a match but she didn't strike lucky. Oh the trials of the dark side.

Thanks MICHAEL for an awesome Poeme Noire and a haunting Abstract. I presume she died in a plane crash ~ which is abstractly pictured in the painting as orientated. To me that's the most untimely death of all (our Prayers are with Cuba) and it does lead to hauntings as there is no time to say GOODBYE ! Thanks for scaring ~ BRIAN

Thanks Brian - many regret words unsaid.

Bloody graffiti artists get everywhere! Even showing up in your poetry now!
Whatever next, writing on marble statuary, you cant leave a statue anywhere these days.

it was Banksy - let's hope it doesn't get stolen.

The picture expresses the depth in such poignant poetic lines Michael -
            - - -leaving a real sense of loss and described with simplicity.

Thank you Fay - I don't have dark moments, thankfully, but sometimes a set of circumstances come to mind and the words flow from somewhere.

              Michael,
              Exquisite painting and verse!

It is sad and frustrating losing a loved one when least expected! No matter how many times we visit their grave, there’s always a void...a constant void that gnaws at me!

Thanks Laura - apart from parents who led a good and long life I've never suffered such a loss but I can imagine.....

                  Unfortunately, I have!
A good friend of mine passed unexpectedly! Whenever we spoke on the phone, we’d say, “We’ll get together soon and catch up!”
We never did! The only catching up we can do now is when I visit her gravesite! I talk to her for a while till the next visit!
