THE SILENCE BROKEN
Only
a spire
breaches
the canopy of green
The silence
broken
by pealing bells.
The Septolet is a poem consisting of seven lines containing fourteen
words with a break in between the two parts. Both parts deal with the
same thought and create a picture.

- Comment from author about the poem: Sweet and sour day - cartoon (by public demand) plus a serious poem. Do you have garden gnomes in America. I was in one of our supermarkets here in the UK yesterday and they had them in large quantities all made from concrete and painted quite garish colours. Actually I hate them but by contrast I'm rather fond of Barrington and Athelstan - the ladybird is called Cedric by the way.

"The Bells! The Bells!"
Back into the tower - cheers Andy
A fine write and pic Michael.
Thanks muchly O
Im not a fan of arithmetic layouts for verse but today yours transcends any such negative overview i may have.
So easily i form my minds picture, a really nice scene it is too.
I quite like strict forms but I am much more a stickler for meter - as soon I start reading poetry which doesn't flow I give up reading it. Meter doesn't have to be achieved consciously - if the poet reads his work out loud he will know straight away that something is wrong. Thanks dusk
Thanks MICHAEL ~ great septolet and another classic Barrington ~ I did find the LADYBIRD ~ in vertical mode bt Barrington's right foot ~ is there a PRIZE (I prefer Rose d'Anjou !) Yours BRIAN !
Well spotted - Cedric features quite a bit in the cartoons - but watch out for the gnomes girlfriends - they may be making an appearance on a computer screen near you soon.
Michael,
Thank you for another awesome cartoon! I must admit, I didn’t know much about the characters! I’m really enjoying them along with the Septolet!
~Laura~
So pleased you like them - Athelstan has a girlfriend - Minnie Stronni - I\'ll see if I can find a cartoon featuring her as well. Oh what fun.
Love that name...
Minnie Stronni!
Thank you, Maestro!😊
CCOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! (shouts in capitals). My version of 'The Silence Broken'. Very short poem of one word there. Hope it's not plagi-wotsit, you know, that long word that sounds like 'plague'
Orchi I am stunned by your latest poem - linguistic ephemera - it has to be an all-time favourite - one word, three letters, - who could ask for more - does it have a title? Is it called: Utterances During The Castration Of A Pigeon.
Ooh thanks Michael. I wrote a similar one called 'Cliff'. It started 'I stood too near the edgeeeeeeeeeeeee.....' (I fell off!) so that's as far I got with the poem!
Brill - inspired ,
Septolet style of writing poem is definitely interesting. The canopy of green in silence motivates mind and does magic. Sometimes natural sound breaks silence but this is pleasurable. This poem is really excellently penned.
thanks for your encouraging words Pintu
