Where Have All The Poets Gone?

Michael Edwards

Where have all the poets gone?

Long time writing

Where have all the poets gone?

Long time ago

Where have all the poets gone?

Other websites every one?

Let’s hope they all return

Let’s hope they all return.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Where have they gone? I will be posting a bit less over the next few weeks but I'll still be around. However others seem to have done a complete flit and there are few poets left. Or am I imagining it?

I feel like brighter poets, I know that! Not in intelligence sort of brightness. And yet it helps to express negative, downcast, depressive, etc emotions. (Well, don't read those sort of poems then, Orchi! doh!)

I tend to switch off with the 'introverted' poems but we who write for the love of poetry rather than the need of poetry seem to be but a handful these days, Cheers Orchi.

THANKS FOR THE WARNING MICHAEL ! This happens on all Poetry Site ~ they reach an apex and then fall away ! I try to welcome & encourage new Poets but there are very few (like you & I) who aim to post every day and post actual POETRY with Rhyme ~ Rhythm ~ Rational and share Classical Forms like Sonnets ~ Villanelles ~ Haiku etc to educate & entertain ! We're not wasting our time because something rubs off on everyone and some have asked me to edit drafts ~ which is a great honour. What I dislike most is when the EDITOR just decides to close it down and it all disappears ! Including yourself I have about TEN cyber Poetic Friends on MPS and I would be sorry to lose then overnight and them me ! It is a good site with a lot of mutual respect & exchange ! We all have to keep active but realistic ~ Yours BRIAN

        Excuse me for jumping in...

        Brian,
Great comments to Michael’s poem! I’m one that doesn’t post often! However, I do like to read the writes that are posted and make constructive comments...if warranted!

As Lawless stated, “People move on with their lives as they see fit.”
That’s fine; however, if possible, it would be nice if they can post a message to let us know that they’re going!
HOOD exited this site like a gentleman...
        He informed us!

I can also understand that there are some who are ill or have passed on!

I do miss some of the regulars!
My problem is that I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve! That is one of my faults!
        C’est la vie!
        Happy Monday!

Just keep writing I guess - we do seem to be a small band but there is some great work between us. Thanks Brian.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have myself been writing less but I've noticed a complete absence of other poets that used to be regulars. And they are missed! Glad you brought it up!

Please keep contributing Christina - thanks for the comment.

Yes this happens but I will not be moving on, I will still post every day and hopefully the other poets will return.
As you say a classic song written by Pete Seeger in 1955, the song was extended in 1960 to complete the round by Joe Hickerson and Pete Seeger's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1964.
The Joan Baez version was first sung in German but she did sing it in English as a tribute to Pete Seeger.

No I'll be staying but I am so busy at the moment and find it hard to maintain sufficient output to keep posting on a daily basis.
