Tune: Laus Deo
('Bright the vision that delighted')
Hebrews 9 v.12-14
********
Not by the blood of goats and calves
But by His own blood Christ saves
Entered once into holy place
To save all of every race
He has now for us sure obtained
Eternal redemption claimed
For if blood of bulls and of goats
Cleanses, what then Christ promotes?
Old Covenant animals slain
Outward cleansing they (the people) did gain
But how much more shall Christ's blood shed
Bring inward cleansing, 'tis said
He through the eternal Spirit
Offered Himself as was writ
Without spot to God, so cleansing
Conscience from dead works, each thing
Cleansed from things of man-made doing
Which cannot salvation bring
Cleansed to serve the living God true
We in Christ made creatures new
We benefit, New Covenant
God to us His Son has sent
He does forgive the penitent
Their state of heart repentant

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8787 metre. We could say that here we come to the heart of our 'enquiry', of contrasting the Old and New Covenants - in these middle chapters from Hebrews.

Amen.
Thanks Gold.
Thanks STEVE for another great Organ Recital ~ ideal wake up for a Bank Holiday ~ NO WORK TODAY Loved the Poem ! The more I read HEBREWS the more I am convinced that only PAUL could have wriiten it. He was an Academic and a very devout JEW who UNDERSTOOD the OT especially the LAW and he understood it purpose & power ~ but also its transience ~ when the OLD COVENANT (Jews Only) was replaced by the NEW COVENANT (Everybody !) This is the key theme of HEBREWS ~ JESUS Greater than MOSES & The Prophets ~ greater than the LAW ~ even Greater than the ANGELS ~ JESUS came not to destroy the LAW but to fulfil it AMEN & AMEN ~ Your BROTHER BRIAN ~ AMEN again ! Please check my "Tribute to JIM REEVES" Ta B !
Thanks Brian. Pauline wrote it! Who's she? Well, a Paul-ine epistle! heehee.
Orchi,
A Great hymn-poem! I’m learning much more from you than I did from the nuns during my formative years! Thank you for your postings! Much to know, analyze, and experience!
