Warning Against Waywardness: Hebrews Series - 13

Tune: Rivaulx

('Father of heaven, whose love profound')

Hebrews 10 v.26-30

*******

In godly fear take heed that we

Do not fall to sin wilfully

After we have received knowledge

Of the truth, that a privilege

For if we so sin there remains

No more cleansing for our sins stains

No other sacrifice can be

But Jesus' life on the cross, see

There then be fearful looking for

His judgement, indignation sure

Which shall devour adversary

Punishment, torment it shall be

They that despised Moses' law true

Were put to death, it did ensue

No mercy, two, three witnesses

Did the sinners ways there confess

Of how much worse the punishment

Shall they be worthy, who have lent

Themselves to thus tread underfoot

The Son of God, their faith uproot

And have counted the blood He shed

Of covenant, that flowed out red

Wherewith we are thus sanctified

They count it unholy, denied

And if we have to the Spirit

Done despite, then our fate is writ

For vengeance is the Lord's, He will

Judge us, and repay us with ill

But if we turn to Him, repent

Maintaining a state, penitent

He will us love, forgive, restore

keep us in His way holy, pure

    Another bright write Orchi

    • orchidee

Thanks Michael. In a way it's not 'bright' - the theme of it, if we 'fall by the wayside' on purpose. But still hope, as in the last stanza.

Thanks STEVE for another uplifting duo ! Fine HYMN and a Fine Poem with a warning in the tale ~ Yours BRIAN

      • orchidee

Eeek! Thanks Brian. But we know it's not always 'Gentle Jesus, meek and mild'. And yet in the Old Testament they more often had to deal with 'raw' God.
