THE DEBTOR

Michael Edwards

THE DEBTOR

Impounded into poverty

with bitterness of debts distress

inflamed within by deep remorse

imputing blame when all is lost

in aggravating self-torment.

Wonderful, if sad, write Michael. I feel so fortunate to have never been in that situation.

And nor have I Andy but I can imagine the torment especially for those with a family to support and it can happen so easily through no fault of the individual.

        Sorry to barge in!
I agree with both of you!
My dad impressed upon us to make sure we had the money to pay for whatever we wanted to purchase! Did not believe in buying now and paying later! A great lesson that I learned!
A bit different for my son! Thatā€™s an anecdote to be told at another time!
The important thing is that he learned his lesson and secured his future. He has his own successful financial business...advising others. Imagine that!

A fine write and pic Michael. I know - I see some homeless in town, some with dogs too. This shouldn't be my first thought, but I may think 'I hope the dog will be all right!'
Sometimes we may blame ourselves if it wasn't our fault that we got into debt, or whatever problem it may be.

Easy to get into and hard to get out of.

            Bit like my singing then!

We had a manageress. Mostly a complete *****. Within a few months of arriving, she said 'Well, I would advise you lot to search for new jobs soon'. She may have mis-used our wages too, but we shall never know the truth now. I've heard two sides of it.
Her husband is a church Minister - but there you go! Have to move on from that now.

              Rant over! lol.

              GOOD MORNING MICHAEL ~

NEITHER A BORROWER NOR A LENDER BE ~
FOR BORROWING DULLS THE EDGE OF HUSBANDRY !

So wrote the BARD and it still is a fave quote of my Mum's ! Unlike so many of my PEERS (30 - 40's) I am totally solvent and always clear my cards every month ! OK I'm still single etc but even when I have a mortgage (that does not count as a Debt in my book) and an ANGELIC Wife and Kids etc ~ I resolve NEVER to be in debt and always to live within our income(s). I blame the "buy now pay later" Society and easy credit. I have known people whose debt has led to divorce and even worse suicide ~ When will they ever learn ~ When will they ever learn ! Thanks for adding to my FUSION ~ please check my poem today it is dedicated to STEVE (ORCHIDEE) an excellent MPS Friend to all ! Love CHRYSANTHS ~ a tad early this year ~ There is photographic evidence that my Mum had GOLD chryanths as her wedding bouquet and she has them in her garden ! Loved your Poem an' Pic ~ BRIAN I am posting a FUSION on FLOWERS tomorrow ~ If you post a POEM I will change the picture ! Yours BRIAN

This is Dickensian Michael! Visions of the poor house loom.......... dreadful misery.

The debtors prison - nowadays often the result of loss of job, company going bust - or, on the other side of the fence, drugs etc.

                  • Lorna

Yes a very scary world out there.............

There was this bloke called John Major (left the circus to become an accountant - true) who failed the nation one day when the ERM backfired on UK and interest rates went through the roof overnight. Mortgage payments trebled, houses were repossessed, Disposable income became a thing of the past. As a self employed tradesman at that time my income quickly fell to zero. Nobody could afford to have any home improvements.
I know all about being a debtor. A position my government put me in.

                        Michael,

                        In my barging in comment
above, I omitted to tell you how much I love your garden flowers!
                        A great pic!

                        ~Laura~
