It was a honey of a day
When you first came her way
The kind of day that makes the whippoor wills
The breezes soft and mellow
And your fingers on her cheek
The kind of day that makes a girl go weak
She let herself believe
From that morning to that eve
That all your pretty words were honeyed wine
But she could not kid herself
That those words were from the heart
Or that time would prove that you would never part
So when next day clouds blew by
Which you saddled up to ride
She watched with knowing eyes as off you flew
And she kept that honeyed day
In a box with ribbons blue
As a way of holding onto it and you

This was an exceptional write. I loved it.
I'm glad you liked!
GRACIAS LORNA ~ Love ND and his mellow version of this beautiful BALLAD ! Sometime a Fair Weather Lover just disappears into the BLUE with no word of farewell and even in these Hi-tech days no email or mobile phone number ~ NOTHING !
Your very elegant poem mirrors the song and is very nostalgic ! Most MEN I know ~ keep somewhere a Memory Box with Pink Ribbons and Billet Doux ! I have one for ANGELA and I hope (and pray !) it will be my LAST ~ Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Please check my POEM for TODAY and my latest FUSION on FLOWERS ~ a two word Poem like WATER LILLIES would suffice ~ CON AMOR BRIAN y ANGELA XOX
Lorna,
Thank you for poeticizing a page out of my book! I was confident you would be the one to do it! 😉
A superb write accompanied with a great pic and song by one of the best artists! Love it!
Have a great day!
~Laura~
And I loved that you loved it and that it meant something to you L.............
It sure does!
This one is for you...🤗
Is that a pic of you on the 🐎?
In the clouds in the sky? It's the lover saddled up and leaving............. looks tempting!
Fair-weather lovers are getting more frequent and this poignant write highlights the sadness their words leave behind. That memory box with blue ribbons brought me near tears dear Lorna -and a haunt of a number from N.D. which adds to your poetic message on what to believe on those days when honey seems to sweeten each pseudo promise of love without end.. Such a moving write.
Thank you Fay for your kind words. I have always loved Neil Diamond and am so sad that he can no longer tour his concerts.... this song made me cry too........ it took me so far back........
Beautiful loving write.
A fine write Lorna.
A beautiful yet sad write - I even have to admit that I like ND
Yes - there are all kinds of music out there to love............ each has a place in our hearts.............
Such a sad reminiscent piece. So poignant. Great write Lorna!
