What an absolute treat,
My loved one sitting opposite me
As we ate our dinner.
Kathleen singing for us on the player,
An absolute joy.
Then came a song,
A song I had heard many times,
But this time the fork stopped
And I was in absolute awe.
How could a voice sing like that?
Absolute perfection.
Absolute emotion.
I could do nothing but listen,
Listen in absolute wonder
At this song.
The sound penetrating my heart,
Reaching my soul.
The tears started to run,
Run down my face,
As her sound enraptured me.
It always has,
And always will,
But tonight it seemed different,
It spoke so powerfully to me.
My world had stopped in those moments,
As Kathleen came into my soul.

A lovely write and enrapturing Gold. (good word there too!).
Which word Orchi - do you mean 'and' ?
Yes - good word there: 'and'. I must use it more often!
Used to listen to a tape of KF in the car but no tape playing facilities in modern cars - must get a CD.
Hold that thought and await the post.
Thanks for sharing & caring ANDY ~ If MUSIC be the Food of Love play on ! I agree no one surpasses KATHLEEN ~ one of my Parents Favourites. Her voice has such PATHOS & SOUL ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN
Thank you Brian, I have most of her recorded work and am going to gave her singing “What is love” at my funeral, but not yet.
Music soothes the soul. It can change our mood completely. I always hate for a good one to end. Nice.
Very true a Heartwriter it is a shame when a good tune ends, mind you I have that problem all the time the amount of music I listen to. Thank you.
Your welcome
Hi Goldfinch60,
I have never heard of Kathleen Ferrer, but what a lovely, enchanting poem and incredible tribute to your favourite singer.
Thank you - well now I am aware of Kathleen Ferrer and will hear a track of hers sometime.
Keep writing
FineB
She is well worth listening to, be pleased to know what you think of her, thank you for your fine comments.
My soul must have gone ages ago. Well, since that fateful moment in 1066, when I mucked everything up! Just why did I turn up then?!
The Devil’s work obviously.
heart-warming I feel I was there , Good work
Thank you OldPine, much appreciated.
Andy,
I saw your posting a few hours ago! As Fine B said, I had never heard of Kathleen Ferrier! I couldn’t listen to the clip right away (no iPhone service for a while...I’m in flight to NYC). I finally was able to listen to the clip! What a voice!!!
I googled to learn a bit about her! The first thing that really saddened me is that she died at such a young age!
What an amazing talent...pianist & vocalist!
As I was reading your magnificent poem, I imagined you with Joyce by your side listening to that amazing music, literally brought tears to my eyes!
Thank you for the share!
Every day I’m learning something new thanks to some super poets on this wonderful site!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura, yes it is so sad that she died so young but she has left us with a great legacy in her songs, I think I have nearly all of her recorded work and it is wonderful.
Yes this is a great site and there are some wonderful poets on here and we can learn much from them.
You’re one of the super ones on my list!😊
