That Will Be Me.

Goldfinch60

In the coffee house I went,

Sat down with my coffee,

Got my book out

And started reading.

I looked up and saw him,

Saw this old man sitting,

Sitting in the corner

Drinking his coffee,

Reading a book.

I read some more of my book,

Drank some coffee,

And looked up once more.

There looking at me

Was that old man.

I nodded and smiled

He did the same.

That was when I knew,

I knew who that old man was,

That old man will be me.

Was he that awful, the old man? Comfortably accepting the advancing years is wise, what point would there be in fighting?

    • Goldfinch60

No not an awful old man. I would be quite happy sitting reading a book. There is no point in fighting ageing just accept it with thankfulness.

Well, Brian's going to live to 117 - he wants to! But we is both hundreds of years old. Heehee. You gone grey?!

      • Goldfinch60

I have some grey BUT I have less grey than my YOUNGER brother.

        try thinking in your mind
        that your 20 years old.
        it works for me.
        ha! ha!

        • Goldfinch60

In my mind I am always in my thirties and that is fine, until I try something physical.

          • onepauly

            ha! ha! ha!

All too soon it will happen to us all. You are beautiful no matter the number. It doesn't matter the season you sit in today. It is just another time of year.

            • Goldfinch60

Very true Heartwriter, I would be quite happy no matter what age and I would certainly be happy sitting in a coffee bar reading a book.

              • Heartwriter

                Me too sweetie.

I think we all see visions of ourselves in others - fine bit of observation.

                • Goldfinch60

Thanks Michael, we certainly do and I can see me being very happy as that man.

It happens to us all ~ even @ 35 I look in the Mirror (well I have never has a BEARD !) each morning and increasingly see my Dad ! So I splash on BRUT EXTRA ! I love FOLK SONGS ~ to my analytical mind ~ they are all funny & silly ~ which is why I love them ! BUT I much prefer Country Music because it always reflects REAL LIFE ! Thanks for the SONG & the POEM both an antidote (in some absurd way) to ENGLAND being CROATED ~ The only compensation is I will still be alive when the YOUNG LIONS graduate in 2022 ~ AMEN. Thanks for sharing ~ please check my FUSION on "My Fave Hymn" Brother BRIAN

                    Thank you Brian.
I am going to take issue with you about Folk songs, most are not silly, try listening to this and tell me that it is silly - https://youtu.be/GQiqFBAc1LA - most Folk Music tells a story and can be extremely moving.
I too like Country Music and yes it too tells a story in the same way as Folk Music, please remember that Folk Music is centuries older than Country music.

                    Andy,

After reading your fine poem, Iā€™ve come to the conclusion that you have not embraced the Dorian Gray syndrome and Iā€™m confident you never will!

I enjoyed listening to that ā€œmodern day yuppy bluesā€!

                    ~Laura~

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Laura, I hope that I am growing old gracefully, not too gracefully though.

                    • Fay Slimm.

We need never fear seeing ourselves maturing for our outlook on love grows with experience - - - beauty is in the eye of the beholder so look again and smile at that lovely lived-in face. xx

                      • Goldfinch60

Thank you for your kind words Fay, I am always smiling as I am always grateful for my life no matter what problems are thrown at me.
