Perfection Failed.

Goldfinch60

In this life we look for it,

Look for perfection.

Strive as we might,

It is always out of our grasp.

What we need to realise

That perfection is impossible,

And if we ever reached it

For what would we strive?

Our lives would be meaningless,

We would have nothing for which to aim.

So instead of striving for perfection

Be satisfied with the good,

The good in your life,

The good in your life that can be reached.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This came up in Church on Sunday. The preacher said that his manager once told him that if we work to find perfection in what we want to do we will never do it so accept the job as being good and move forward. The Classical Jazz Quartet only produced three albums which is a great shame.

A fine write Gold. I have heard: 'If you are looking for the perfect church and seem to have found it - don't join it. You'll only spoil it!' doh!
You found that perfect whisky? It'll be the one without water.

That'll teach me. At some show I had tot of undiluted 1856 whisky of some sort. Blew me head off!

Agree with your words here Goldi - perfection should not trouble us as we try our best - - love the number you chose of classical jazz - just my choice too and shame they made so few.

      • Goldfinch60

Perfection is a myth but as lng as we keep striving towards it all is fine.
Yes it is a shame they did so few albums, I do have them of course.

Firstly, a big BIG thank you for introducing me to the Classical Jazz Quartet. Wonderful to hear a familiar and famous piece played with feeling by obviously excellent muso's. I will definately be investigating them further.
Great writing again today conveying a wholesome message.
Satisfaction with ones achievements along a path of improvement - possibly seeking the mytical goal of perfection - will indeed bring happiness. Being aware of and accepting ones own shortcomings is true self knowledge. In recent years a songwriter penned - in words of admiration - 'your perfect imperfections,' perhaps bringing the subject more easily into focus.

My pleasure da, they did three albums, Bach, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, all of which are great, I have them m mind you I have nearly all Jacques Lousier albums as well. Another group to listen out for in the same vein is the David Reed-Williams Trio.

As long as we keep trying to achieve our goals all will be wonderful.

            David Reece-Williams Trio.

There is so much wisdom shared in these words! We do often strife for perfection which is impossible to obtain. Thanks for reminding us we are only human. Great write.

Thanks STEVE ~ The perfect fusion of JAZZ & CLASSICS ~ Like Yehudi Menhuin & Stephan Grapelli ~ is awesome ! Love the message in the Poem ~ However in many walks of life we do strive for perfection and sometimes get near it ! When GOD designed the plants ~ He built in Biosynthetic Pathways to produce the DEEP RED of a Rose or the scent of JASMINE ! You know that using Radioactive tracers we can now examine these pathways ~ thinking God's thoughts after HIM. When I worked on Plant biosynthesis and unravelled the route ~ I felt this was perfection because we were exploring the creative Mind of God ~ AMEN ~ Yours BRIAN & ANGELA

Thank you Fred for your comments. As long as we strive to aim for perfection our path will be full of wonder.
