The barge sits there
Waiting for us to board,
The ropes are freed,
And so are we as we move,
Move gently down the canal.
The engine throbbing gently
Moving us past Natures canvas
Painted all around us.
At the side of the water
The birdlife looks at us
In their serene way.
Further and further we glide,
The peace only interrupted
By the soft throb of the engine,
And the wonder of Nature’ Symphony.
We glide to a stop for the night,
Sitting on the deck in the evening light
Peace reigns,
Except for the song of the birds.
As darkness encroaches
The birds stop singing,
Silence surrounds us.
Into a dream filled sleep we sail
Until we awake refreshed,
Ready to continue our journey,
The journey of life,
At four miles an hour.

A fine write Gold. Did our horses go more than 4mph in 1066?
Mine did yours didn't that is why you were always lagging behind.
Orchi lost the starting handle which didn't help
idyllic. I'm envious of my ex who's managed to live on a narrowboat for some years now and in some luxury too.
Your writing encourages me to romance the idea again.
Thank you da, yes it does sound like an idyllic life, I would be quite happy to live like that.
What a great first Sunday morning read and listen, I'm now ready for todays mission going no faster than you've mentioned.
Take it eeeasy
I intend to today, I spent all yesterday afternoon rehearsing for a concert I sang in last night, today is "absolutely shattered Sunday" - the concert went very well.
A rest well earned my friend.
Thank you Dan.
Wish I was there today instead of painting garden furniture - fine write Andy
Thank you a Michael, will you be painting the furniture in an abstract way?
Thanks ANDY ~ Love the SWINGLES ~ Unique sound ! Love the POEM have spent many happy hours messing about on canals ! Never owned a BOAT but have crewed (locks & galley) and hired. Yours BRIAN
I have only had one barge holiday and that was great.
A great write. I enjoyed it alot. There's nothing as peaceful as a boat ride.
So peaceful and exhilarating at the same time, thank you H.
Sorry about those Skodas! Well, I'm in me 3-wheeler. You know, the ones Mr Bean hates!
My ex father in law had a rthrre wheeler and the keys to that car could open my River 2000 that I had then.
Ohh I wish I would shut up! I don't even drive. Keep putting me foot in it!
Andy,
The best ride I’ve taken in quite a while... so tranquil and satisfying! Thank you!
~Laura~
I am glad you enjoyed the ride Laura, thank you.
