Tune: St Magnus
('The head that once was crowned with thorns')
Acts Chapter 6 parts
*********
Seven men of honest report
By early church were sought
To be deacons, food distribute
Grounded in God their root
They full of the Holy Spirit
Their lives illumined, lit
And full of wisdom, so to serve
Not from the truth to swerve
And one was Stephen, a man full
Of faith, he powerful
Full of the Holy Spirit too
Did wonders not a few
Yes, full of faith and power he
Did God's work, all did see
Life of God from him radiates
And needy souls he sates
His opposers were not able
To withstand him at all
Could not the wisdom nor spirit
Resist, nor words one whit
When at his trial they did see
A sight resplendently
Saw his face as an angel there
He did the gospel share

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686. Not to rely on feelings alone, but there are spine-tingling passages in Scripture, such as this one. The triumphant tune seems apt, with an Ascension theme. I did a poem of same title a long time ago I think.

I know that My spirit will always be with me as it was with him. Good write.

~Laura~
Thanks Laura. you sating souls there?! Erm ,what else rhymes with 'radiates'?
āappreciatesā š
we'd be hard put to find 7 honest men today if they were politicians....... hey Orchi?
Thanks Lorna. Erm, yes.
THANKS STEVE ~ Another great Golden Oldie ~ Beautifully played & sung ! The martyrdom of Stephen is a paradox ~ A Tragedy that such a promising Servant of God should die so Young ! A Triumph in the way He died. The Scripture states that JESUS stood up to Greet Him amen. Augustine said STEPHANUS NO ORORAT PAULUS NON IN ECLECSIUM ERAT ! IF STEPHEN HAD NOT PRAYED ~ PAUL WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN IN THE CHURCH ~ OK. For Saul (Paul) of Tarsus to have observed the TRIUMPHANT Death of Stephen was the beginning of his conversion. Thanks for posting BRIAN. We will be off-line until TUESDAY 31st July ~ OK
Thanks Brian, and for Stephanas wotsitā¦.!
