Tune: Trentham
('Breathe on me, breath of God')
*******
O agitated heart
Calm again be your part
Though you must midst all humans live
And offer take-and-give* (*i.e. give-and-take)
When upset, offended
Graces seem from you hid
Remember Christ's example too
He suffered more than you
Though human attitude
May be anger renewed
Where made to feel worthless or small
Yet still on your Lord call
And offer forgiveness
Not hold to bitterness
Though be assertive, state your case
And grievance squarely face
Take courage, for respect
Basic, you should expect
And show it too to all you meet
In friendliness them greet
Make peace where'er you can
With each child, woman, man
But if that peace be rejected
It turns back to your stead*
(*i.e. turns back to you instead)
'Tis how it is in life
Sometimes burdens and strife
Some folk we cannot please always
Through human life and days
Christ knows, He shared in this
In human nastiness
Yet friend of sinners, loves us all
Saves those who on Him call

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 metre. Fido is barking at me now, as I say - In life, some may treat us as rubbish or as s**t. It's their attitude - it stinks! Even the Bible says (St Paul) 'As far as possible, live in peace with all'. He, as us, was not super-human, and encountered hassle too. I was treated like this, but as a 'snowflake' I don't often do as stanza 4 says. My experience reminded me of what attitude NOT to have towards others. It was a very un-civil servant. Others may have replied with the F and B words. Not that I'm always sweetness and light though! Woof! It's OK Fido, I've finished now.

In the Christian religion this is the belief but it where is He for me and Joyce.
I understand Gold. Whether God seems obvious to us, or if we're holding on in the dark as it were, we surely don't lose that basic belief.
Stanza 7 may seem blunt, if said in the wrong attitude, sort of 'That's life, like it or lump it'.
Hope you find again soon that he is there for you both.
I have read this and pondered long how to respond to it. As a non-Christian I am not faced with the kind of dilemma which Christians face and accept the concepts of simple good and bad luck. Nonetheless I am still sympathetic to those who do hold belief (my wife is a practising RC - in fact she has just left for church as I write this).
Thanks Michael. It could apply to non-Christians too. Does Miss Berles hassle you?! If so, what is your response to her? Or think on the lines (no spiritual/religious aspect needed) if you've met any un-Civil Servants? Some, only a few thankfully I find, can appear to be complete ******** (ooh, insert un-Christian word!). Woof, woof - Fido gone mad now!
I've got a word - can I post it of will I be attacked by Fido?
Is Fido a Great Dane or is he a Little Dane?
I should think he is a yappy, but nice, Jack Russell sized-dog! He might attack us at the least thing. He's very enthusiastic.
THANKS UNCLE STEVE ~ An amazing Hymn and poem based on it. It is a very powerful Hymn and unusual in that it is addressed directly to the Holy Spirit. Do we always consider what we are singing ? It is very challenging and it contains SEVEN requests to the Spirit an promises we make in return !
1. To be filled with the SPIRIT
2. To be guided by the SPIRIT
3. To be PURE
4. To endure in the Christian Walk
5. To be wholly committed to GOD
6. To be "on fire" for GOD
7. A promise of Eternal Life
Very challenging ~ Thanks for sharing ~ Yours BRIAN !
Thanks Brian.
Orchi,
A great posting!
As I was reading it, I kept thinking of what’s happening all around us! All the vitriol that’s taking place! I wish everyone would take a step back and stop the blame game! It seems to be getting worse rather than better! Whatever everyone’s religious beliefs are, all we need to say to ourselves is...HOW CAN I MAKE THIS DAY A BETTER ONE...not only for myself but for someone else!
OK...
my waffling is over!
~Laura~
Thanks Laura. Yes, apart from any religious aspect, I nearly said things I shouldn't have. We can turn on people, even attack their personal appearance, etc, if they upset us. Doh, go and talk to the cat, Orchi - or guinea pigs, or a plant! Sometimes they give more decent replies than humans.
Christ? Is Christ god? If so what was the suffering?
It's as I've said in some previous hymn-poems.
The reason i comment is that i see so many contradictions in what you are re-stating. They are there for any intelligent mind to see.
Can you give me an example? Am I going on blindly not realising?
