OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS ~ A Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

I drive round in a car  ~ when the journey is far

But when I'm In the Hills and the Lakes  and the Rills

I love to walk ~ to amble ~ to hike

But for short hops ~ like a trip to the shops 

I really needed an old fashioned BIKE !

 

Now Bikes are expensive ~ a good one is dear

And where there are Hills ~ you need more than one gear

A good one I found would cost two-hundred pound ($260)

I spoke to my Friend ~ Peter Pryke ~ and

He asked me ~  "Would you like a Bike ?"

 

"I have a Bike ~ that I no longer need

It's in quite good nick ~ and has gears ~ three speed"

When I asked him the price ~ he answered "My Friend"

"I don't need no money ~ have a hundred years lend !"

 

So I got me Bike ~ it is really a treasure

With the wind at me back its gives me much pleasure !

So if for a Bicycle you have a need

Have Faith that God sends you a new VELOCIPEDE !

Today ~ because of traffic congestion and the cost of petrol ~ they are increasingly popular ! Also because of the UK's success on Bicycles in the Olympics ar very popular with young people. I always had a Bike when I was young ~ but had not realised just how expensive they had become ! However just when I needed on ~ Opportunity knocked in the person of my Friend Peter Pryke ~ now I'm the proud owner of me very own BIKE. Comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN XOX

      So many years since I pedalled one of these machines - quite fancy trying it out once again but the idea of wearing one of those silly looking helmets - yuck - must be incredibly vain. Another enjoyable posting Brian.

        Thanks MICHAEL ~ Bikes are very popular especially in CAMBRIDGE (nice and flat and lots of Students with no cars !). I agree about the helmets ~ look like rugby scrum caps and not Futeristic & Macho like motorcycle helmets. But for the Young (under 21's) they have saved a lot of head injuries ! Pleased you enjoyed the POEM ~ BRIAN

              I have a great bike. Our whole family does. It's one of our family activities. Very nice poem! And no, my bike isn't purple. Wish it was! lol
