NEVER GRUMBLE ABOUT THE JOB YOU HAVE
MILLIONS ARE UNEMPLOYED AND WOULD LOVE IT
IF YOU HAVE RETIRED ~ THANK GOD YOU SURVIVED !
THE DAILY GRIND ~ THE DAILY GRIND
Can really grind me down I find
Its petty chores they blow my mind
Inescapable ~ DAILY GRIND !
I have to wash ~ I have to eat
I have to pedicure my feet
Make sure my clothes are washed and neat
And check for potholes in my Street !
To make sure I'm not late for werk
My car runs smooth ~ and doesn't jerk
And book my lunch (its not a perk !)
And greet my Boss ~ and smile not smerk !
I use the GYM ~ so I look thinner
And count my calories ~ at dinner
Make sure I am a SAINT not SINNER
Meditate and Pray ~ I'll be a WINNER !
I read the papers ~ watch TV
Keep up to date from A to ZEE
A useful Citizen I'll be
THE DAILY GRIND ~ is killing me
If I don't stop ~ and get to bed
I'll pop my clogs and end up DEAD !
Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome

- Comment from author about the poem: The trivial round the common task ~ Should furnish all we ought to ask ~ Room to deny ourselves a Road ~ to daily bring us near to GOD. When this HYMN was written (1830) there were no labour saving devices and life was much harder. However with computers and mobile phones etc are lives are much more hectic today ! I'm up before 7am to check my emails (and MPS !) and if I am in bed before MIDNIGHT its a miracle ! I always find some time in the day to PRAY & MEDITATE which is important ! Comments welcome ! Worked solidly for forty seven years and one month, never forget the one month, and have been retired for five years in June. Had a good working life and a good home life, no regrets and when I get up in the morning I know the day will be good.
Good write Brian.
AMEN BROTHER ~ Thanks for your comment ~ I am pleased you are enjoying your well earned retirement ~ GOD IS GOOD ~ BRIAN
Same for me - retired some 7 years ago and enjoying every minute of it. Plenty to fill my time and the following certainly doesn't apply to me: why do old folk not look out of their windows in the morning? Because they'd have nothing to do in the afternoons ! Great piece of poetry Brian.
Thanks MICHAEL for your supportive comment. Seven years retired WOW ~ I wondered how you managed to get on MPS so bright & early and also how you found time to put brush to canvas. Fron the Seniors i know it seems to me that those who were busy (and had hobbies) before retiring are never bored when they do ! Yours BRIAN
Daily grind described so well - this verse makes me glad I have retired dear Brian...

I love this poem! Sorry I'm reviewing it so late--speaking of the daily grind! One of the busiest days I can remember in a while. It's amazing what we have to fit in in a day. But I wonder with all the stuff you have to do how you fit MPS in the mix. Great job! Hugs-Christina
Thanks CHRIS ~ Yes life is busy busy busy ~ but for me MPS is an escape and it is a great blessing to meet a lady like you to share my MUSE ! Poetic Hugs ~ BRIAN
