What is Death?

Goldfinch60

We know it is waiting for us,

It cannot be avoided.

It could happen quickly,

It could happen slowly.

But what is it?

What is death?

We know that the body stops,

Stops breathing,

Stops working,

Stops existing.

But what else is there?

Does anything else exist?

Is there a Spirit,

Or a Soul,

Within us?

Many say they know,

They know that our Spirit,

That Spirit within us,

Goes on and never dies.

But are we right?

We just do not know.

Death is a vast mystery

That we may never solve,

Except for those who believe.

And I believe with all My Spirit

That My Spirit will go on,

Go on to infinity,

Go on to eternity.

Nice one. My local lending library shows me so much evidence for life after death in the 'previous lives' type of format. Personally i believe in reincarnation along the lines of buddhist teachings so i'm with u on this. Provocative!

Thank you b-e it may cause a stir but I am resolute in my belief.

This question raised by your verse reminds me of the quote that "We are not humans having a spiritual experience but spirits having a human experience. We manifest love and as Love is part of the permanent love cannot die.

Thanks ANDY for writing so eloquently on a TABOO subject DEATH. Because I am a CHRISTIAN I have no fear of death ! Because of my Faith in Jesus I have assurance of Eternal Life in Heaven' Whether I die today or in 50 years time makes no difference because Christ has prepared a place for me in HEAVEN ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN Please check my RECYCLE Poem and my new FUSION POEM ~ Thanks B

Thanks Brian, both you and I know where we are going.

Goldfinch, this is a great poem. I am all with you! On paper I am a Catholic, but I have my own way of looking at things, and my way very much follows yours!

        • Goldfinch60

Thanks very much Fred, I have been brought up and follow my way in the Christian way to God but I have a very strong belief that my Spirit flows through me and goes on to infinity, our time in these bodies is just a blink of an eye in the Great Sheme of things.

You are absolutely right. It would take too much space and time to explain my whole theory, but I know that we who touch each other in this life will be together again.

This is a wonderful and well written poem. The question of death is a deep one, and you did a great job expressing it

              Thanks Tony, much appreciated.

No question in my mind. Not only do I have glimpses of and strong feelings stemming from past lives, I was married to a woman with psychic ability who could converse with those beyond the veil. To me it is a given.
Good poem, Goldfinch, and it certainly caused a conversation, didn't it!

                • Goldfinch60

Thank you Louis, it always does create a reaction.

A fine write G/F. Dang it! Why did I come back as an arrow in 1066? Anything but that! heehee.

Yep, did we both meet Solomon ages ago?! I'm sure we did. I'm not into reincarnation though. I mean, we must have met him cos we are both millions of years old. heehee

I remember you - weren't you both brickies on the First Temple?
Come to think of it isn't Theresa May likely to become a latter-day Solomon?
Wasn't he the last ruler of the United Kingdom of Israel?

                    • Goldfinch60

I was the brickie, Orchi was the hod carrier.

Yes it all comes back to me now - don't you remember - I worked the mixer!

                        • orchidee

Yes, I think so Michael - arrgghh, Solomon the last ruler of a 'united kingdom' of Israel. His son Rehoboam didn't listen to the 'oldies' who said to treat the people gently. He listened to the younger ones who said to make life even harder for the people. Then things fell to bits, though somehow divinely-appointed. We was all there at the first Temple building.

And for my next poem - What is..... a pork pie?! I wish I would shut up! lol.

I know that my heart is persuaded. I will gather with you there.

                          • Goldfinch60

We will all gather as our Spirits become one.
