Coffee First!

Goldfinch60

Off we go into town,

Doing what we need to do,

Or not as the case may be,

But it always starts the same.

My wife says I sound like a parrot,

As “Coffee first” I say,

“Coffee first”.

Into the café we go,

I order the coffee

Mines and americano,

Without milk!

Hers is a cappuccino

With chocolate on the top.

We sit there drinking,

Chatting and laughing,

Watching the world go by.

Watching people

Is so entertaining.

My coffee is finished

So I am ready to face the world,

As the caffeine does its work.

She is still drinking hers,

So I employ another saying,

Hoping to hurry her up.

I say “Come on dear,

Places to go,

People to see.”

She replies,

“Don’t call me Dear!”

Filter coffee or French Press - the only way to get a full rounded cup of coffee. Great scribe and I'm with you G - a coffee and watching the world go by but not Costas, Cafe Nero or Starbucks. Their coffee is all forced through a machine and loses out on the subtleties of the flavour. Also their charges are so high and service levels are nil. We have a Hotel where you can sit in comfort and someone comes over to serve you at half the price - Sorry - I could go on and on about coffee.

I agree with you, our favourite place is a garden centre where the coffee is good and people watching can be so entertaining and inspirational.

THANKS ANDY ~ Coffee and the morning go together ~ you can't have one without the other ! I like ground coffee and I get a lot given me (generally unwanted presents) so i always perk my own at home. I like it with cream & Amaretto or Baileys ! We have A Proper Coffee Shop in town ~ where you choose your Ground Coffee and they perk it for you can have a liqueur with it for an extra POUND ~ HEAVEN. Thanks for sharing ~ you are in my Prayers ~ BRIAN

Goldfinch60 this sort of work i love. Pure poetry and honesty of the simple day to day norm. I was there in my local coffee shop with you, seeing what i see. But it has to be worded and presented just right. You nailed it sir!
