Spirit Showerings

orchidee

Tune: Ash Grove

('Sent forth by God's blessing')

Acts Chapters 1 & 2 parts

********

O wait for His power

The appointed hour

When He shall pour on you in copious shower

The Spirit He promised

And sins He has remissed (forgiven)

Wait for His good hour, so it not be missed

And there were they gathered

Together, not scattered

Soon, soon comes the fulfilment of His true word

And so then empowered

His Spirit endowered

Was given, and all there His praises they heard

Power then to witness

And all nations to bless

Who Christ as their Saviour accept and confess

And from Jerusalem

From there it did then stem

Flowed to Judea, Samaria, all them

Then on to uttermost

The gospel makes its boast

In all the earth showing, from coast unto coast

His Spirit fulfilling

Christ's mission, grace giving

To spread word of life unto all things living

They continued in prayer

And fellowship did share

Tending to each one with compassion and care

In doctrine and teaching

Each soul they were reaching

Enlightening path for those who were seeking

Broke bread in communion

Including full each one

Accepted by grace through their faith in the Son

And prayers too ascended

As the Spirit He led

Saving some daily, hope of life from the dead

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.11. 6.6.11. 66.11. 66.11. metre. 12 lines each stanza. This is unusual, though could broken down into, say, 6 lines per stanza, as the tune seems to almost repeat half-way through. Not a very good clip. Hope you get the tune. Phew! Managed 3 verses. Bit tricky too, as shorter 6-syllable lines alternate with longer 11-syllable lines. 'Endowered' may be my own word!

Sorry about rear-end views in this! Not the most welcoming clip! A woman seems to clear off at about 1:20. is the hymn too long for her?!

        His love shall unite us...
        beautiful message!
The hymn is not too long...
        just ask my mom!
She was the ā€œreligiousā€ church goer!
I read and let her hear
        the hymns you post
        every day!
        She truly enjoys them!
        Sheā€™s home bound and
can no longer go to church!
        She loves to reminisce
        of the good old days!
        Thank you for the posting!

Thanks Laura. One church I know does not have many actual 'hymns' as such. Not that I'm seen as a fuddy-duddy, but it's not where there 'at'. And yet too many 'choruses' endlessly can get on one's nerves!
