Occasionally when I glimpse in a mirror
I see him,
I see that man that gave me my foundations,
The foundations of my life.
That man that gave me the love of music,
Music in all its different forms.
He listened to them all,
Some were not for him,
But with his open mind
He would listen.
That open mind came to me,
And I will listen to all,
But like him, some are not for me,
But his foundation in music
Became mine.
His and my love
For classical and jazz
Have no boundaries.
That man introduced me to nature,
As we walked together in natures realm,
Listening, looking and smelling
The joys that abound in the countryside
Were his,
And are now mine.
That man showed me tolerance,
He never got angry,
He was always fair,
Would always listen
To other points of view,
Would discuss,
But never argue,
Would just accept the differences,
Then move on.
This is now me,
Carrying on his work.
This man was, is, my inspiration,
This man now passed into eternity,
Passed over twenty years ago,
I know I will be with him,
As Our Spirits join
And we will walk again together,
Listening to music,
Walking with nature.
Both in absolute harmony
Harmony with life.
Yes I still see him today
As I glance in the mirror,
I see my Dad.

- Comment from author about the poem: This is true, I sometimes see my Dad in me in facial expressions in some of the things I say, he passed in 1995 but he is still with me. The picture is not a good one but shows him and his relaxed way of living.

I could say similarly of my Mum - passed on some years now. A fine write and tribute Gold.
Thank you Orchi.
Made my eyes water = it could easily have been my Dad too - miss him every day. Yes I often see my Dad in me too - I often hear my wife say 'You sound just like your Dad' I take it as a complement.
I have the same from my wife and I always say thank you.
Thank you Michael, it sounds as though we were lucky to have such fine men as our Dads.
I can't believe I spelt compliment wrong - we were indeed lucky.
Definitely not my Dad, but I can very much appreciate the relationship you had/have with your Dad. I would do all those things, but my Dad tends to be very closed minded, always has been. Excellent write Andy.
Thank you AP, much appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you Nicholas.
He looks a lovely man and instantly likeable......... it's disarming isn't it to see resemblances - my nephew has my mother's eyes - EXACTLY - and it's a bewildering feeling when I talk to him.
Thank you Lorna, it is amazing when we see our parents in our relatives.
Truly fine writing Sir. You are a fortunate man.
Thank you da, I have always thought so.
Gold,
A beautiful write of that handsome man...

~Laura~
Thank you Laura, so kind.
Thanks ANDY for a very elegant tribute to your DAD ~ Fathers should be a very important influence in our lives and all our lives. My Dad still with us is a great Musician ~ Wordsmith and lover of ART ~ and he encouraged us all in these areas. We are very Blessed to enjoy the love ~ encouragement & guidance of Godly fathers ! Love the photo ~ very PATERNAL ! Yours BRIAN
Thank you Brian, he was a great influence on my life for which I am truly grateful.
A wonderful tribute to your father. I wish we all had dads like yours!
Thank you Christina. So do I.
Goldie, this is a beautiful tribute to your dad. Yes he does live on through you and I am happy that you are aware of it. In many ways we are mirrors of our parents, be it good or bad. Our parents not only gave us life, they shaped who we are and what we have become. Great poem!
Thank you Fred, yes my Dad is within me.
