Caught somewhere between
The vises of a traditionalist
Lost in yesterday and tomorrow
The visions of an optimist
Growing up a shy boy
A Baby Boomer for sure
Unaware of life’s consequence
The outcome I’d have to endure
The road of life
We travel without road maps
With only intuition and gut feeling
We end up where we’re at
While wrong turns
Can leave you lost
There’s no turning back
In effort to redeem the cost
Yesterday is back there
And today is here
But tomorrow is still yet to be
Don’t let it consume you with fear
‘Tis you in the driver’s seat
With you at the steering wheel
Let experience be your guide
And use your heart to feel
Keep a watchful eye out
For life’s road signs
Let caution be your co-pilot
And your desired destination in mind
When roadblocks occur
Follow the detour route
For life is full of changes
Adjust your strategy plan anew

An excellent poem, AP!
The last two stanzas
sum it up best! May
you enjoy the ride!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura. Appreciate your reading and compliment and save.
Yes we are all on life's journey - so far all functioning but a bit of rust here and there - fine write AP,bits
Well Michael, as we get older I think a little rust is inevitable. Thanks for reading.
Our lives are full of unexpected bends and changes, that is what makes it so wondrous. Good write.
Yes Andy, I agree that the unexpected does happen and can bring a different change of pace to spice things up. Thanks for reading.
Very beautiful piece indeed I enjoyed this throughly ❤️
Thank you for the compliment marlena, I'm glad you enjoyed my poem.
Your welcome an yes I enjoy all ❤️
A fine write AP. One reason for a detour in life is to avoid me singing! I wish I had seen that sign saying 'Extremely Dangerous Road - Do Not Enter' when I saw KP! lol.
Got to watch for those road signs orchi.
Argghh there was another sign I missed too - it said 'Dead End'. lol.
Well, don't miss the sign that says,
"STOP HERE - STEEP CLIFF AHEAD"
I failed to see that one tooooooooooooo...... - see me going over the cliff there?!
I'll send in the medics, don't go anywhere.
Yes AP - I guess the secret is how much energy you have for each upcoming "problem" that has to be faced....... (like the 12 inches of sticky wet snow after yesterday's storm that broke sooooooooo many tree branches....... oh well)......
I have to admit I feel really guilty at only a dusting of snow while you and so many others got much more. The storm track went North of the Cape Cod area. Maybe you've a interesting poem/report of the storm from your point of view? Hopefully it will melt quickly. Thanks for reading Lorna.
