Love Rules the Heart
I’m no stranger to love
My virgin heart of ten
The target of Cupid’s arrow
For an Angel I fell back then
But that was then, this is now
Learning to love again
I’ve found has a learning curve
Not as easy as when you’re ten
Because I’ve been in love before
Now I know how much is at stake
Love is a two way street
There needs to be give and take
Love is not a toy
To be played with carelessly
Real love is something
Your heart will cherish endlessly
Love is not a game
Not about what you lose or win
Real love is euphoric
About feeling the magic you’re in
That you care deeply
For another heart
A heart that cares for you
So deep that it hurts to part
Grown adults know love’s rules
The bond of trust runs deep
Break that trust and you’ll cause
A broken heart to weep
My first love I’ll always love
I credit her as my teacher
Because of her I can love
Even if I can’t reach her
You can rest assured though
I’ll not pursue her
But I can’t guarantee
I’ll love you deeper
I can try to love you
If love will accept us
Held within its embrace
Building that bond of trust

A fine write AP. I knows you're not 10. I knows you're 21. Aww someone added: 'Yes 5 times over'. doh!
6 X 10 is 60 + 1= 61 orchi. But who's counting? Thanks for reading.
This is an awesome write, AP!
A great choice of music to accentuate your poem!
He should know about “The First Cut is the Deepest”! It’s a great song! Rod Stewart is one of my favorites. He sings it best with his raspy voice! As I said, a great song for your written sentiments!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura. Not sure if its originally his song, or Sheryl Crow's song. But he does a great job with it.
I believe it’s Cat Stevens’!
aaah, ok. I've not heard his version. Thanks Laura.
AP - adore the poem, absolutely adore the song - I've played this one over and over the the past...... it always makes me cry.
Thank you Lorna. Appreciate your reading and complimenting.
Very good and very true write. That first love will never be forgotten but the mainstay of love is the one you settle with, I have now been married 37 years this year - not bad for a second marriage.
Thanks Andy. Congratulations on 37 years.
The love of my life - 54 years married - great work AP
Thanks Michael. Congratulations on your 54 years. What's your secret?
Love and something that doesn't always come to mind - respect for each other. Wouldn't change her for the world.
