Depression is a Family Illness
Friendship said:
Wow, a very powerful poem, Katie. The central idea of the poem \"Depression is a Family Illness\" revolves around the profound impact of depression on familial relationships. It portrays the struggle of a parent grappling with mental illness and the ways it affects their ability to engage with their children and partner. The poem ultimately highlights the cycle of depression and the bittersweet nature of love and connection, which can exist even amidst emotional turmoil.

Sad, dark, with a sense of hopelessness is the disease and so the poem as well. Nicely put together in a very personal manner spoken in the first person. Nicely done Katie

Your poem was quite complex, taking me a while to figure out; despite my best efforts, I remain uncertain about its meaning. Nevertheless, its writing quality shines through. Okay, Katie, here you go. The light shines brighter with each step forward in its journey.

I love the metaphor of outgrowing her gown. Death but a change and we out grow life moving on to a larger size and so too our memories outgrow the past and move on to new growth. A lovely write

Beauty turned ruin and the thoughts that accompany it from splendor to slime. They say we are only as good as the last thing we do and so it is with the river too. A lovely write Katie that carries with it a darkness and depressive air that settles heavy on the heart.

Welcome to my world. I live in South Florida,,,,,,,, The poem \"The Wind Comes to My Rescue\" explores themes of solace and connection with nature during a restless night. It reflects on the comfort provided by the wind and the beauty of the night sky, capturing a moment of introspection and serenity amidst the heat and humidity of South Florida.

Katie this poem presents an image that comes from distant memory. It seems to represent memory itself with its flowers and decorations but at the same time its peeling paint. Time passes and this poem seems to represent that. A most lovely work

I usually read poems over but the first reading of this poem left a feeling I did not want to disturb, whether correct of not. It was powerful and deep. The image of bare boned knees struck deep. This gave the feeling of despair at its darkest. A lovely write and could well be taken as that blackness felt by the sufferer of the illness themselves. Well done Katie and a fave

\'I wrote before I knew I was me,\' is an incredibly powerful line. It perfectly captures the feeling that creativity isn\'t just a hobby or a choice, but a fundamental state of being, like breathing. It feels like a true \'origin story\' for the soul. Thank you for sharing this. 🕊️🙏
