Forgive Me, I Beg
Lorna said:
Cancer and any lingering death changes everyone around it........ when I think about being afraid of dying though I always remember the people I loved who have died and say to myself \"if they can do it, so can I\" ...... wherever they are is all right with me. Especially if it ended their anguish.

Kurt,
This is too relatable! I’ve attended too many funerals of young and old! Cancer doesn’t discriminate! It’s a horrible disease to deal with! My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your friend!

Such a sad but beautiful write Kurt - your pen captures all the feelings of loss after battling with the scourge of cancer. My condolences to yourself and to your friend\'s family.

Forgive Me, I Beg
Kurt Philip Behm said:
Thanks Fred. I buried my best friend of 49 years yesterday. We had both made that promise. He died a long and terrible death from cancer, but his wife was holding onto every day—even when he was comatose.
I\'ll forever wonder if he would have kept the promise if things had been reversed.

Sad and regretful, touching on something not many people want to talk about. Maybe because of fear? Of fear of failing? An incredible poem that makes me question myself. What would I do? Would I be strong enough to hold my promise?
Kurt, this poem is a lot deeper than it looks.

The Cycle
FredPeyer said:
Yes, Kurt, everything goes around in circles, and you said it very eloquently. Also agree with the second one. Reminded me of religious people who condemn sex and then sleep around!

Madonna\'s Last Hymn (+1)
FredPeyer said:
Love your poem, Kurt, but it makes me think. How many \'lifelines\' do we have? Seven like a cat? If I look at it in terms of seasons, I am in winter and don\'t know how long that will last.
You are right too, the past is in the past. Maybe remembered, but water under the bridge.
Very beautiful writing and rhyming.
PS: I don\'t think my lights will be dimming. There will be a short and an explosion with tons of light and joy before it all gets dark.

Thanks Fred, the Indigenous Peoples have suffered much.
When I wrote \'Searching For Crazy Horse,\' I spent a lot of
time at Pine Ridge, the large Oglala Sioux Reservation in
South Dakota.
It\'s the size of Connecticut, and the experience changed my life.
Thanks again

\'Wana hin gle\' is such a beautifully written Indian tale! Reminded me a lot of the Hawaiians who also lost much!
\'About Us\', feels like you wrote this just for my wife and I.
\'The colored glass\', amazing how you can say so much with so little.
\'Myopia\', the death of a writer!
\'The greatest gift\' made me think and I guess you are right!
\'Set to bloom\', an imaginative way to explain imagination!
\'Last ghost\', beautifully written!
\'Safe within\', love that second stanza!

That Final Skin (+3)

Ah, Kurt, all four are great, but are getting too close for comfort. Your writing is exquisit, there are too many beautiful word choices to mention. Beautiful conclusion in \'free again\', and great last line in \'to fly forever\'. But the best of them all for me, the one that spoke to me, is \'will your exit be an entry\'. That is beautifully said!

One Last Choice (+9)
FredPeyer said:
One last choice: With each stanza I was getting more and more curious what the end would be, knowing that \'take it inside\' would have to be changed, or explained. Was not disappointed! Great poem.
Giving & Taking: This is a real \'thinker\'! Am checking my inventory of unwanted items and unknown lost ones!
Given & Heard: Seems like you are describing the perfect poet here!
The end begins: According to Sigmund Freud, sublimation is a sign of maturity and civilization, where we exchange basic instincts for acceptable behavior. So, I guess the end of one becomes the begin of the other. How far off am I?
The well runs dry: It reads beautifully, but went right over my head.
