The first two stanzas made me think of my favorite cover of Between the Bars by Elliot Smith, covered by the Civil Wars...

I\'m glad to see the ending conveys new beginnings. This was bitter sweet and lovely, yet again. My favorite kind of poetry.

Beautifully structured (I would not have expected less from you C), Left me slightly off balance (That’s positive – not a crit) with some high value nuggets in there – especially the last two lines.

The flow and rhyming are first rate in this dark lament my friend - you penned so clearly the shadows we pass through and have to cope with . That last couplet is so very telling too

I feel like my comments are getting redundant, but once again your words blow me away.

I love that this has a sense of hope despite feeling lost. At least that\'s how I read it...

When I felt like I didn\'t know who I was supposed to be, I took comfort in seeing life as a blank canvas waiting for art. So keep that stiff upper lip and take heart.

Another perfect rhyme and metre from you C.
Submission to another’s will – a horror story really….
And more than a passing reference to the performative aspect of the roles society imposes.

Gee Coyote, where ever did you get the inspiration for this title? ;)

\"While knowing nothing ever came
from unpretentious prayers...

Another grand performance
by the Princess in the tower\"

I love everything about this, it\'s absolutely flawless.

Can fully appreciate the sentiments you so passionately expressed here. To me I found that mysticism( ie direct communion with God) is the common factor that connects all religious experience.

so happy for you, dear Poet
a great write
thank you, for choosing to share
(sorry for your suffering
of all the cruel fates of Time
dementia, has to be
one of the most heart-breaking;
morosely unbearable, to survive
I dare not even imagine
those scars
it inevitably tattoos - deep)

My wife had dementia and died from it. I lived with it for many years watching her disappear from me.
If anyone thinks they know about dementia and have not lived with it 24/7 they haven\'t a flaming clue what it is about.

Hi Coyote,
Yet again, another great work.

Makes me sad that I wrote a multiple page poem somewhere in a now lost notebook that shared the same sentiment... Especially \"I will not kneel before
such an altar\".

Thank you for the reminder, I\'ve been meaning to recreate that poem for a while now.

Beautifully written my friend.
