Your opening VERSE shares the well known PARADOX ~ I desire to be touched (held) and an aversion ~ we want our own space ! It is partially *self preservation* because if we let someone get too close they could easily overpower & hurt us.
V\'s 3 & 4. In SE England we have pebbley beaches and often the best pebbles are in deep water (or under the sand) and always ~ Just out of reach. Just like our ambitions & deams !

I relate to this poem alot, im really glad you shared it on here. Its hard to express. You want to be in control of some of the pain thats caused to you and it brings a type of clarity. These days are meant for something. They feel empty and void but in time when you feel a little less empty and a little more content with your life it means all that much more and thats a gift in life down the road(:
