Love this, Thomas. Really captured something. Can almost hear the horses hooves and the cheering crowd. But, I only know of the Kentucky Derby from the our pal Hunter S Thompson. :-)

The trouble with gambling is if you win the first time you believe you can win every time and so end up not being able to pay the rent.

You brought my Dad and both my brothers to me in this brilliant write. We all watched the horse racing on tv every Saturday afternoon and on many occasions visited Epsom, Ascot, Newbury and Newton Abbott race courses. Wonderful days out. Fabulous poem Thomas.

lol ah how wonderful to live on the edge though! I bet all amounts of money on the pure facts the surrounding nostalgia of all the old was worth losing a horse race for as you so cleverly said on your last line. Superb 🌹

A tragedy also for the comedian, I\'m a great fan of humour yet we live in a new world that takes all the fun away, personally as a nursery school teacher i find it is a hurdle rather than a positive. In the 80\'s and 90\'s we had the best comedy in the world and no one cared, I think someone got it mixed up with racism which of course is unacceptable but any smart person would already know that. I also find it\'s to protect those who are disabled. My mother always told me if I didn\'t have anything nice to say then I should just shut up. It\'s a good rule. A very nice discussion dear Thomas, the last comedy night I went to live the first skit was all about the ginger haired male. Just to say I was on the table enjoying the laughter with 2 orange haired men who also loved it. 🌹

Dear Thomas as exquisite as ever, my favourite stanza is the second your imagery throughout is just beautiful. Last lines ah, seems such a simple task complete, with a kiss from a dad, as we all know it isn\'t for all. Wow your compassion is blinding in this. 🌹
