The Whisper and the Roar
Soman Ragavan said:
The wind indeed displays many marvels. From a gentle breeze to unchained fury that devastates all in its path. It can uproot trees in seconds. At sea, it can propel sailing ships on their journey, but also wreck them and sink them when it unleashes hell. (It can also sink steel ships, of course). After doing so, it resumes its cool Air like nothing happened… Anyway, we think that what we post on the Internet will remain forever. But, what provisions are there for the database to be preserved when the site will close down ?...
All might be Gone With The Wind…
That’s why I publish my books in hard copies and give some copies to universities and public libraries to be kept as archives. Soman Ragavan. 25.5.2025

A lovely poem of nature and all its majesty. Wind that they call Mariah that blows across all the earth from pole to pole knows no boundaries over prairies , mountains, seas and canyons. A beautiful work.

The River Thinks for Me
Soman Ragavan said:
This poem anthropomorphizes the river, giving it human-like abilities. There are terrific lessons to be learned from a river. Water on its own is soft, it will give way when you pass anything through it. But it still packs in big power. While big boats float on it, it can still smash them when it rises as a destructive force.
The same river that flows serenely can gather force when full and sweep everything ahead of it. It can break its banks, chart out new paths, etc. Its quietness is deceptive.
However, its rule ends when it meets the sea. It enters the sea meekly, having lost its power at that point. It has been said “The sea refuses no river.”
From the book “3000 PROVERBS” by Sam Phillips. New Delhi : Goodwill Publishing House. (Year probably around 2017). Full acknowledgements are made to the authors, publishers and other rights-holders.
At that junction, the fresh water of the river becomes salty, like the sea.

I can only imagine it in Spanish for the original is generally even better than the translation and this one is already a fave. Maybe it is that these lilies grow along the stream just below my house or maybe it is just their beauty or the beauty of the words and images of the poem itself but this poem brings many feelings that are nostalgic and peaceful and so poetically done.

Not really into funerals, so I\'m not sure why I opted into this one.... but once in, I got carried along nicely. Cultural background very much in evidence and enriched the story well. Thanks for the write.

A poem that\'s social comment speaks for the poor. Very nicely written with good description. The continued phrase (Night funeral in my barrio) carries power like an echo. A wonderful poem

In your country it flowers in August, in Mauritius, in December. One thing we will notice about this tree is that, when flowering, so much resources are needed that there are few leaves.
